Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

Lauren, this is SUPER early and I LOVE it! I'm working on finishing up Micro in the Spring and I am getting SO anxious to just apply already. Started my pre-reqs last January and finished up some of the non-nursing ADN-required courses like psyc and lifespan development. Currently holding a 4.0 for A&P 1 and 2 and I already took micro at another college that collin wouldn't accept credit from SO that should at least be another easy A.

I'm set to take my TEAS on Saturday and I have NO clue what to expect. I took a practice test through Mometrix and got these scores:

Reading: 89%

Math: 92%

Science: 79%

ELA: 82%

I can't decide whether I should be busting my butt to get my science and ELA scores up.

Hello!!

Sorry for the extra late response! How did you do on your TEAS in December? I think that in case of a tie breaker that they look at the science portion and reading only.

I'm worried about getting in now after reading all these comments! I took a look at the point system and I'm at a 19, maybe 20 (got a 82.7% on my TEAS so not sure if I should round that up or not). Is a 19-20 good? Do you all know what is usually an automatic admission?

I got a 90%, which was WAY better than I expected. I'm super happy with it. That means if I get an A in micro this semester, I'll be applying with 20 out of 22 points!

From what I've heard in past years, they usually do tie-breakers around 16-17 points. Above 18 is usually a good number. If you got an 82 on TEAS the highest score you could get (if you got all As in prerequisites) would be 19.2 (possibly 19.3 if they round up). That's a strong score I'd say. Most people really only have the ability to get 21 points because of the military service thing, but I'd say your score is in a good spot. If you feel nervous about it, you can go take TEAS again to possibly boost that up, but you'd only be looking at an extra point, maybe less.

Hey y'all, I have a question. I got an 85.3 on my TEAS. I wanted to retake it, but I'm curious how much it would actually help with my chances of getting into Collin's program.

To my understanding, 85 on the TEAS = 8.5 points? Or just 8?

Also, if they consider tie breakers, would that involve different sections on the TEAS? If the TEAS is considered for tie breakers, I think I will retake it since I only got 70% on the science portion. I would guess that is the section they look at most.

Do you think it is worth it to take the test again before May?

85 would be 8.5 points, yes. The highest score I've ever seen is a 95%, so if you think you could really get a STELLAR grade the second time, you could get up to one extra points. It all comes down to how many points you have elsewhere. The breakdown for the points is on the ADN portion of their nursing program website. Tie-breakers they look at 2 different portions of the exam for your scores. If your overall point total isn't at least 17-18, I would try to at least get your science score up.

Hello , I am planning to apply for ADN program in fall 2021 but I gave 18.3 points. I am not sure is this a good score to be accepted or I am still far away??

Hey Enas... I wish I knew. I'm at 18.4 points and I'm considering re-taking my TEAS test to get any extra points.

Above 18 is generally a good point total. I think last year they did tie breakers at like 16 or 17.

The application will be opening soon! I am nervous but excited. I was curious if the grade you get for Microbiology is calculated for points? I know you can get 5,4, or 3 points for getting an A,B, or C in A&P. For micro, do you just get a point for having completed the class?

Yeah it doesn’t count like the A&P’s. You get one point for completing all 3

Yes, you get the points for A&P only and can get one more point for completing the prerequisites.
I am not sure if my points will get me in or not, so I am thinking to get another chance for TEAS test to get a higher grade.
