Collin College ADN Spring 2016

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone. I have been searching for a Collin College Nursing applicants for spring 2016 thread for weeks and I have not seen one so I figured I would start one my self: ) I will be turning in my application for the program this week and I wanted to share my story. I made A's in all my sciences. I made an A in English and a B in humanities, general psychology and life span psychology. I made a 6 on the PSB as well. I will be applying with 27 points because of the 3 B's I made in humanities and the psychology classes. Because I will only be applying with 27 points I am apprehensive about getting in. I have worked so hard and come so far for this moment, I will just have to give it to God. I've only taken my sciences once, which is good according to the nursing department as they are really factoring acceptance into the program based on taking your sciences once (they told me studies show those who take their sciences once and get an A the first time tend to do better in the program). However, I hope it's enough. I have children, I work full time and it took everything in me to get A's in my sciences and a 6 on the PSB. On the old point system I would be applying with 16 points (I know I need to get over it). I have been following the allnurses site for about a year and a half and I have had the opportunity to share in many wonderful experiences. Most of you that have posted had 4.0's and I've seen the joy you express when you get that acceptance and I am so happy for you all. I hope there is someone out there that applied and got in with similar applying factors and if so, wouldn't mind posting. I'd love to hear from anyone who will be applying or has applied for the Spring 2016 start and what your stats look like. Please do share. Best wishes to you all.

Congrats to the incoming nursing students from a current Collin College nursing student! I just finished the first semester. It was quite a ride! Good luck to you all. I may later post some of my words of advice that some fellow students and I came up with - because I believe it may be helpful.

what study guide did you use for the psb?

Hello,

For students Spring of 2016, do anybody know if the booklists from the bookstore is still good or has it been updated with newer versions of the books? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi do you by any chance know of a good psb study guide?

Paolahevic

Hi,

I used the Secrets PSB study guide and I also search google and did practices test from websites. I think it helps with the Science part to review your AP 1&2 Notes. I took it after AP2 and since the information was fresh in my head that I scored well. Good luck and hope that helps.

Okay thank you so much, How was the math section did you need a calculator

Hi there. I just graduated from Collin and have tons of resources if anyone's interested in buying books let me know.

Hi paolahevia, you can't use a calculator on the PSB, you really don't need one anyways.

Congratulations mybabiesrk3! What a major accomplishment! I am in need of books and would like to know how much you're selling them for? For the 2016 Spring Nursing students, what are you doing to study for the 200 definitions and 100 abbreviations we need to know by day 1? I am using brainscape.com and I have mastered all the abbreviations but I am struggling with the definitions and we only have 3 weeks until class starts. Any words of wisdom would be great. If any current students have any tips please share :)

thanks so much... did you use a different study guide?

I originally used one of the study guides from the college library but did not use it much. I would recommend finding practice test for reading comprehension and timing yourself. You will only have about 15 minutes to complete the reading comprehension section. Most people struggle with that and the spelling portion. The math is very basic, you'll likely be surprised how basic it is. I am not so great with math and I did fairly well on that portion.
