Collin College ADN Spring 2016

Published

Hello everyone. I have been searching for a Collin College Nursing applicants for spring 2016 thread for weeks and I have not seen one so I figured I would start one my self: ) I will be turning in my application for the program this week and I wanted to share my story. I made A's in all my sciences. I made an A in English and a B in humanities, general psychology and life span psychology. I made a 6 on the PSB as well. I will be applying with 27 points because of the 3 B's I made in humanities and the psychology classes. Because I will only be applying with 27 points I am apprehensive about getting in. I have worked so hard and come so far for this moment, I will just have to give it to God. I've only taken my sciences once, which is good according to the nursing department as they are really factoring acceptance into the program based on taking your sciences once (they told me studies show those who take their sciences once and get an A the first time tend to do better in the program). However, I hope it's enough. I have children, I work full time and it took everything in me to get A's in my sciences and a 6 on the PSB. On the old point system I would be applying with 16 points (I know I need to get over it). I have been following the allnurses site for about a year and a half and I have had the opportunity to share in many wonderful experiences. Most of you that have posted had 4.0's and I've seen the joy you express when you get that acceptance and I am so happy for you all. I hope there is someone out there that applied and got in with similar applying factors and if so, wouldn't mind posting. I'd love to hear from anyone who will be applying or has applied for the Spring 2016 start and what your stats look like. Please do share. Best wishes to you all.

Congrats to everyone who got in!!! :) I'm a freshman & this is my 2nd sem at Collin, so i really don't know when to take the psb. (I missed all the pre-nursing orientations:down:) Do i take it after having taken ap1, ap2, and microbio? or would taking it after just ap1 be fine? Did any of you guys take the pbs for practice at least a year before your application deadline? For those of you who got a 6 on the psb test, did you study any review guides? if so, what book(s) did you use?

Does anyone know which books we are to bring for tomorrow?

When you all applied to Collin's program, did you send in any letters of recommendation? And do you know if the nursing program accepts (or even looks at) them?

Hi everybody!

How has nursing school been so far? Any advice on studying tips for nursing school and tips for nursing school itself?

springg2016, I sent in 4 letters of recommendations and I was told by the Nursing recruiter they do look at them. Did you apply for the summer or fall?

Hi futerrn806! Nursing school is intense to say they least. Its been hard but doable if you put in the work. I did not realize how hard it would be and I have had doubts, however, my drive far out ways the doubt. we are now halfway through the semester and we start clinicals the week after next. The biggest thing with Nursing school is getting organized and studying. You will make some good friends, people who are practically like family. Create a study group week 1 of Nursing school and stick to it. Since I have 5 kids I have forced myself to stay behind after school anywhere from 3-4 hours because I know when I get home I will not study. We have 2 express classes which finish up right before clinicals start, I and thankful to have already finished one of those classes, its like a milestone. Please let me know if you have any questions, I wish you all the best of luck!

Hello mylife7! What makes nursing school hard? The subjects or amount of work you have? How much do you have to read each week, and do you read it all? Some schools make you read everything while other schools break everything down into the lecture from the reading. How does it work at Collin?

What makes Nursing school so hard is everything lol. The test are not knowledged based, they are all critical thinking. Every week we have a test (just about). If I can do it anyone can.

I really hope I get in although I know my chances are slim going in with 26 points :/

Hi paolahevia, tell me more about your points? I actually only had 26 points and I got in on the first try. I had A's in A&P 1&2 and a 6 on the PSB. I was in the process of taking Micro when I got accepted and I ended up making an A in that class as well. I only took my science classes once I made B's in most of my co-requists though which is why I ended up with 26 points. So don't lose hope.

I have all A's in Preqs... but I retook them first A&P 1 I took it straight out of HS and for some reason The college I went to made a mistake and let me take it without the Biology pre req... so I was totally lost and got a C... and A&P 2 I got a B while having 2 kids under 2 so I retook and Micro I had a B and retook last semester and got an A.... and I have an B in Eng, B in Humanites, B in Lifespan, and A in Gen Psych.. and a 5 on PSB.... I didn't even know about recommendation letters :(

That's ok, keep hope alive :) I hope you get in. Keep me posted.
