  1. Orientation is pretty basic. It primarily covers all the paper work that's need and some expectation. There will be another orientation day 1 of class and it covers all the class stuff.
  2. Hi Alinaruiz, I recommend you contact the recruiter ASAP. If you do not have either a blue card or an outcomes letter by May 9th then you will forfeit your position, trust me, I know first hand. It can take weeks to get your results back, therfore you will want to get your fingerprints done ASAP. There is no exception to the rules. A blue card or outcomes letter before school starts is a must. If you have anything on your background, even if it is an arrest because you forgot to pay a traffic ticket you will have to declare it with the board and the entire process takes a while.
  3. Sure, no problem at all! They told us that we needed a pen light, stethoscope, scissors compression stockings (just a suggestion) and a clipboard for clinicals. However, the pen light and clipboard won't be used until you start clinicals. A lot of people purchased the white coat clipboard because it has a lot of useful info and it folds. Here's a link to it if any one is interested, it's pricy though Amazon.com: whitecoat clipboard if I think of anything else I will let you all know
  4. Hi msqtsmith, I know the overwhelming feeling you all felt. you can wear any color scrubs everyday and they must be solid colored. They only time you are required to wear the Collin scubs is for clinicals and when you have a skills test which is usually 1 day every other week. There might be a day each week that you only have class and no lab, if thats the case, you can wear street clothes. I wear scrubs everyday just in case. Before we started clinicals, on Mondays we had class/lecture all day with no lab so many people wore street clothes, however, sometimes they open up the lab for us to use after our all day lecture class and for those that did not have scrubs, they weren't allowed in the lab.
  5. Hi appioriley, You will have to purchase a stethoscope separately.
  6. Hi futurern806, You have to wear scrubs everyday you are in lab which is practically everyday so I purchased a few pair. You have to buy a pair of Collin Nursing scrubs which are required to be worn for clinicals and on testing days. I ware regular scrubs everyday and only wear my Collin scrubs when required because they are not very comfortable in my opinion. You'll get all the information that's needed about scrubs tomorrow.
  7. If you are not organized, the number one advice I can give you is to start getting organized because you will need to be organized in order to be successful in this program. There is so much information, especially in the first week that it becomes overwhelming. I spent the first weekend of Nursing school at the library for hours printing, filing and lableing my Nursing school binders. You will want to purchase a calendar that you can carry with you everywhere due to so much information, you don't want to be lost or fall behind. Expect to spend a lot of time away from the house and a lot of sacrifice. Don't get me wrong, there are many people that can not do this and are still successful. After the first week of school I had to sit down with my husband and tell him in order for me to be successful I will need to stay after school to study, because once I get home I am too distracted with my the kiddos. So everyday after class ends I usually stay 3 - 6 hours. Not everyone will have to spend as much time as I do to study and will still be successful. I have really enjoyed Nursing school and all the incredible things I've learned and you will too. So clean your houses now, get organized Let me know if I can help in any other way.
  8. A backback that's big or one the has wheels. I have a pretty large backpack but I am going to invest in something that rolls because the backpack gets so heavy. I'm at school most of the day so I like to keep the books that are pertinent with me which just so happen to be heavy books.
  9. Hi Claire_bear123, the logo such as a Nike Swoosh can have color.
  10. I understand, however, 2 of my 5 kids went to pre k and I did not see that much of a difference. In fact, my younger 2 that did not go to pre k are doing a lot better in school then my kids that did go to pre k.
  11. Thats going to be a problem then. You may want to considered waiting another year until she starts kindergarten. I have 5 kids but they are all school age and I've had to spend a lot of time away from the house. The schedule is Mon-Thurs usually 8:30 - 3:30. I hope you find a plan that works for you. Nursing school requires a lot of sacrifice.
  12. My class hasn't really discussed acceptance, however, 2 girls that I've gotten close to were both on the waiting list and got in. There are probably more.
  13. We got our acceptance letters on 10/8 and then got the FastPass email on 11/9. I scheduled my appointment the next day (on a Tuesday)and I got my blue card the following Friday. It was fairly quick if you don't have anything on your background and have never been arrested. This is the Texas Board of Nursing busy season so if anyone has anything on their background the process will take a lot longer.
  14. The classes should cost you around $370 (for 1st semester in-county) and the books will be $1268 but its for the entire Nursing program. You will also have to purchase a drug book and a nursing diagnostic book as these do not come in the bundle at the book store. Also keep in mind you will have to purchase your uniform which is around $86 if you get a lab coat with it. You must also have all white shoes and there will be a medical supply bag which is purchased through the school and it is $245, it too will last for the entire program. 1st semester I spent about $2000 (I also purchased a few scrubs and school supplies), however, that is the bulk of the money you will spend, the proceeding semester will mainly be tuition which is pretty reasonable if you are in county as I am. I hope this helps!
  15. That's ok, keep hope alive :) I hope you get in. Keep me posted.
