Hi everyone!
This is my first time posting, but I have been on Allnurses for a couple of years now! I really appreciate this community, as you all helped me to get through my prereqs and pass the teas 6.
I have applied to College of Marin's Fall 2017 ADN program, and I'm reaching out to see who else is applying there as well.
In addition to College of Marin, I had to cast a wide net for schools--I also applied to about 9 other schools in and around the area.
I would love to set up a thread so we can keep in contact with each other....I think we start to hear back in April/May.
Good luck to everyone who is applying this round, and I hope you get into your top school!
@Dubnation @Jaznurse
Did they state that they would start contacting people next week? I'm excited but really want to make sure to get all my ducks in a row. Did any of you get your other items like immunizations, background check, etc? I'm still going through the hand book but has anyone done so?
@DubNation, I LOVE dogs and my family have always had dogs! I also noticed the NCLEX drop rates and emailed the program admin, here is her reply (I hope this is okay to copy and paste over part of the email, because this can potentially answer others who also have the same questions I did about the drop in rates):
"... NCLEX pass rates, since you are asking these knowledgeable questions you probably already know the answer(s). Class attrition, and strength of cohorts are two broad answers for your question regarding the decrease in the NCLEX pass rates, I won't dive into those but that is generally the answer. Additionally we had a full curriculum revision and this also had an impact on that cohort.
Thanks for reaching out and best of luck"
Anybody has more insight upon her response? I did not know the answer(s) to why and I am glad she lightly touched on the question. I hope our cohort would not be heavily impacted by the new curriculum. I've seen their past years and it was great, just dropped last year. On a positive note, let's form study groups!
@couragetoheal thanks for the quote that helped a lot! there are still my first choice. I also applied to two other schools and haven't heard from them either. I think I heard at the Univ of Phoenix on COM campus meeting last week that they were going to start contacting people Mon and Tues (but I may be wishful thinking) IF ANYBODY HEARS please post here so we all know where to look. I am scared it will come on Mycom site which Im not on as much as gmail.
lets have a conversation but if it doesn't work yes, lets, also make study groups galore! Lastly regarding the comment about background check I am waiting bc I want to make sure I go to the right place. I need to sign up for Summer school speech and was hoping to hear if I got in before that Summer school deadline tho, ah!!
ps. Go Warriors, pss. dont forget to apply to online scholarships they're due in June
@dubnation and @couragetoheal
Yes, let's talk about rooming and living situations :). Also getting to know one another too. I believe that the response is that some people are going to not be so inclined as to completing the program if they are not mentally or emotionally ready for it; or other reasons being. People drop out or don't make it till the end.
I just came from an LVN program and it was NEW...NEW...NEW!!! There were a lot of bugs to work out the curriculum that needed to be addressed, how people learned and what they taught and how. Pretty much what I have come to find out and being in the medical field and work field a long time, it really is up to you. In nursing they will teach you so far in the program, but after clinicals and on the floor...IT'S SO DIFFERENT!
School gives you the basic concepts of what to know and clinicals help you to somewhat apply it. When you get out of school and study and pass the NCLEX (which pretty much makes sure you know the concepts and information of being a nurse) you completely take on a whole new world of learning. Academics and application are different. Probably some didn't study or expected it to be hand held education. You literally have to work to find answers and seek them out. Nursing school is no joke because I have a lot of NP friends and friends who are nurses. You need to have a humble heart, STRONG mindset, and be open minded. Stress has to be handled with ease and dignity and know when to center yourself and mind to be able to dictate your actions and decisions properly.
You have to really want it and want it for the right reasons. I'm going to email you two and hopefully get this ball rolling.
BTW anyone take the TEAS on Thursday at 1pm? I was there!
Hi all future COM nursing students, good luck on your nursing journey. I am graduating next week and bridging through U of Phoenix. I remember this time as brutal waiting for the letter of acceptance. In my cohort the highest number that was accepted was 59. Right now Angela must be inundated with wrapping up the semester for the 2nd year students, and preparing for graduation. I will check this thread periodically and if I can answer any questions let me know. Good luck and I hope you all hear soon about entering the program!!!!
@jiowa12
When did students start hearing from the office? What is your experience like and do you know of students being able to join U of Phoenix during the end of the 1st year and beginning the second year?
Where are the clinical locations and when did those start? OH AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHAT ARE THE CLASS SCHEDULES LIKE? Incase for those of us that need to work?
Thank you so much for all your help and is there anything else we should know or anticipate?
