This question sounds like something you might experience on the nclex. Just take the information learned and move on. I remember getting questions like that in nursing school and would be frustrated, but I learned to take tests and make the best choice from the question. Good luck to you.

Just keep your head up. There is a lot to learn and take in all at once. I was in your shoes not to long ago. It was a good year before I really felt comfortable. I work on cardiac step down and was constantly asking questions. Find one or two good nurse mentors and always notify the md. It’s best to cover you a$$.

I’m so sorry that that happened to you. I’ve only been a nurse for a short while but I have empathy for you. My second week on my own I was admitting a patient for what I got in report was a gi bleed. I work on a cardiac floor so all our patients are monitored. This was my first blood transfusion. I was with the patient for the first 15 minutes and everything appeared find. The patient was talking with his son and was close to the nurses station. The son leaves and patient decides to stand up to use the urinal. He was ambulatory at baseline. I see him stand up finish with the urinal I put him back in bed. He starts to say I don’t feel alright when he went asystole on the monitor. I coded the patient for an hour before going to icu. I learned a lot about myself and handling code situations after that. I was fortunate to have good debriefing. This will be a learning experience for you and I agree that you should take care of yourself.

You will get an email with your clinical group and what you need to register for. I would also say that open skills is invaluable as you can practice your assessments. You can always gauge what your schedule is by the class schedule page on the student portal.

Did the acceptance letters go out today. Theory is between 9 and 11 ish. Or one to three.

hi steph, Our group was the first group to start UOPX but I believe the first year students began in the winter semester. With regards to clinical hours classes and work, the first semester is usually Mon-Thurs with theory on Mon and Thurs, and Clinical on Tue WED. I had the opportunity to have clinical at Marin General Hospital,Kaiser Terra Linda, Aurora Behavioral Health, SF General, and St. Luke's Hospital. My biggest advice is be flexible. We all started in 4 different clinical groups. You will spend the first semester learning fundamentals and Med Surg 1 as a group for theory, also Pharmacology one, with you having clinical with your own cohort. You don't start specialty rotations of Med Surg 2, PEDS, PSYCH, and Labor and Delivery, until the second semester. This is your first year's schedule. My experience has been a very positive one that has flown by in the blink of an eye. I really enjoyed the personal attention all the faculty gave me. Also form study groups, this will help you bounce idea's and help to self teach concepts that are difficult to understand. ( fluid and electrolyte imbalance, ABG's, etc...) I didn't hear until the middle of May but we had a different person organizing our cohort, She has since retired. i could go on and on, but I hope this helps.

Hi all future COM nursing students, good luck on your nursing journey. I am graduating next week and bridging through U of Phoenix. I remember this time as brutal waiting for the letter of acceptance. In my cohort the highest number that was accepted was 59. Right now Angela must be inundated with wrapping up the semester for the 2nd year students, and preparing for graduation. Yes they email you a letter and then you need to sign and deliver to the program. I also forgot about getting a physical and immunization record for the college. Good luck to you.

After looking at your post, I would say that Number one, knowing the relationships between mg/micro-grams, and how to convert lbs to kg are important. Dosage calculations are the bread and butter of nursing. You are accountable for the medicine that you will be administering to your patient. The best thing I learned from chemistry is dimensional analysis. Being able to set up equations and converting from one variable to another will help you with nursing math. The hardest concepts for me is calculating IV drip rates. There are many formulas to use in order to get nursing math correctly. The best part is that if you are unsure of something, you can ask the pharmacy, also some medicine is double checked. (pediatric medicine and chemotherapy) I hope this helps and good luck to you!

I got in on my first time. I also got into srjc. But chose com as my first choice.
