College of Marin Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting, but I have been on Allnurses for a couple of years now! I really appreciate this community, as you all helped me to get through my prereqs and pass the teas 6.

I have applied to College of Marin's Fall 2017 ADN program, and I'm reaching out to see who else is applying there as well.

In addition to College of Marin, I had to cast a wide net for schools--I also applied to about 9 other schools in and around the area.

I would love to set up a thread so we can keep in contact with each other....I think we start to hear back in April/May.

Good luck to everyone who is applying this round, and I hope you get into your top school!

Haha, this is Jutta- the one that went to Africa with Dr. M! Hopefully we'll both get in, it'll be nice to see a familiar face.

Hi!

I'm sure your trip was awesome! Going w/ Dr. M must have been great.

I would love to have a friendly face....!

Now, we wait...

Hi everyone.

I got got my email and below the 36 for the lottery. I was wondering about the selection. As long as we pass the teas are we guaranteed a spot or do they take the highest scores for the Teas for the lottery numbers?

Greeting Future Rn's,

I am lottery number 78 and I am not feeling very confident in being accepted this Fall. I received and email from one of the Nursing Professors who said that they will be accepting 43 applicants. I am curious... How many of you with a lottery number below 78 will be declining their position? Also how many of you still need to pass the TEAS?? Good Luck and fingers crossed that I am able to start with you this Fall.

Hi~•

Can I ask who you received the email from? And when?

I'm #48 on the list...

I have already taken and passed the teas, and

COM is my number 1

I emailed Angela directly last week asking what the maximum number of applicants they will be accepting this year.

I was told that they don't have an exact number of applicants that they are accepting yet, bc it is constantly changing....I thought that was an odd answer, but ok.

but...

that number 43 is what I had in my head bc that is what my counselor told me, as well as my friend who is in the program (graduating this year) told me also.

I'm glad that we are talking to each other bc I feel in the dark about this whole process...

**I also took NE90, which that info was given to me back in 2014.

I just completed taking NE90 in Feb. and so I contacted the professor, my counselor and Angela. She said that they are awaiting a grant that will allow them to accept 43 applicants. Angela probably told you that she doesn't know because a lot depends on the grant $$ and qualified applicants. From the response that I got from my admissions counselor, was that they don't expect (Lottery #1-43) students to pass the TEAS. I am feeling to the dark as well....

@Naraiza

Hi, do you mean they don't expect some of the students to pass the TEAS or accept admissions to the school if they applied else where? I am in the low 20s and "BY GEORGE," I know I'll pass and accept. I believe they go by lottery number and those that pass will be offered admission in order if they pass the TEAS. It's a random lottery as I'm guessing by reading and they take the first 43 that are in the order of lottery, pass the TEAS and accept.

Do they take into consideration the percent you got on the chancellor's excel sheet or did that determine if we are placed in the lottery or not?

I do do wish everyone luck and those who really want to go to Marin, will do so. Others will be accepted elsewhere, etc. As for myself, this is my heart, my time, and my turn. Marin is my choice.

So confusing! Does that number 43 include the 10 waitlisted from last year?

Hi All! Current 1st year nursing student here!

I was number 43 in the lottery last year. Not to dampen your spirits but, it was a good long while before I got my acceptance. It can go really slow because they offer to the first 36 or so spots and each person has a certain amount of time to accept or decline before they will move on to the next person. It was early/mid July when I got my acceptance email. We started with 40 students in our cohort. If I'm recalling correctly, I believe the highest lottery number they got to was in the low 50's, but that fluctuates from year to year. I've heard of them getting into the 70's, 80's, and 90's previously. As someone above said, it's not over til it's over!

A friend of mine in my cohort was a re-applicant from the previous year. She was one of the ten people they save a spot for. She said she was not assigned a lottery number, but simply offered a spot, but I would imagine not all 10 of those people accept. I'm not sure if that means they offer to those 10 people and then start at #1. The lottery system is quite confusing. But I would say if your number is 30 or below and you've passed the TEAS, your chances are pretty great; I'm under-exaggerating here because I don't consider anything final until it's in writing.

My tip to all of you waiting, especially if your lottery number is above 30 or so, is to have all of your personal information ready. You will need records of all of your vaccinations or have titers drawn. If you haven't already I would recommend taking a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers class through the *American Heart Association*, NOT the American Red Cross. Also, I would make sure to be prepared financially. There is A LOT of upfront cost that you don't even realize as you're entering the program and it all adds up quick (books, uniforms, fees, supplies, etc. etc.). The financial aid process at COM can be quite cumbersome and it's usually the middle of the semester before they distribute student loan checks and scholarships, which does not help you at all with upfront costs.

Good luck everyone! Hope to see you this fall!!

I am lottery #20. COM is my 2nd choice in case I don't get in SRJC's program. Is there anyone here attending the informational meeting with U. of Phoenix on May 11?

Cool, I guess I'll just wait. I was wondering if I made it into their chancellor percentage formula because I was told by EVC in SJ that it was 68% (not sure how they got that info) but in Ohlone College was 75%. Don't know how that works.

Thanks though.

EVC's minimum pass percentage requirement is 75%, I wonder why someone would tell you 68%??? I've been accepted into their program for the Fall 17 semester. Just barely made it over that 75% because of a withdraw I had for a previous science course (I was a dip and tried to take physiology and microbiology at the same time!)

Thank you SO MUCH for shedding some insight into this process!

I'm #48, so it sounds like I may not hear until mid/late July (possibly!).

Just knowing how this lottery process works really eases my mind.

Thank you for saying that just bc you received a rejection letter doesn't mean that your number won't come up. I know it's not a guarantee, but it's really not over until it's over!
