College of the Canyons Summer/ Fall 2019

Published

Hello All:

Starting a thread for those of us applying to COC Summer/ Fall 2019 RN program. I am specifically applying to the LVN to RN program. Lets keep each other updated on status.

Glendale Moorepark and COC should give us our results this month Pierce probably next month but Valley and Pasadena barely opened up their application. So I won’t find out until June or July for them

Moorpark already sent out acceptances. I did all my pre-reqs there but did not apply they take the TEAS so early!

I apply to Pierce, Moorepark, Valley, Glendale, COC and Pasadena ... trust me applying to more schools may increase ur chances of starting nursing school... (athough some schools have more prerequisite requirements).... but yes COC is my first choice. I’m on 3rd application cycle and I know people who applied to all 6 and had to apply for 6 cycles.... unfortunately EVERYONE wants to be a nurse now.... so it’s a lot of competition.... I Can’t tell you how many people that Have their bachelors already and decided to change their field of study into nursing cause of the money... they have a Good chance cause of their bachelors... it’s tough competition out there

Hopefully they have a passion for it. Going into this career for the money is not a good idea. So many people do not know what they are signing up for. I started at the bottom as a CNA doing home-care, assisted living, and bedside care in a hospital. I have worked with a lot of nurses that lacked empathy and do not like to be hands on with their patients. I congratulate everyone that worked hard and put their hearts into this field of work. I just think that merit alone lacks the definition to be successful in this field. Having a subordinate certificate or license in the field should be a prerequisite to applying to the nursing program.

I 100% agree with you... I tried to explain to fellow students that are trying to be nurses that although the money sounds great ....you. will have to get dirty ...especially in the beginning parts of nursing school and working as a CNA definitely Helps a person understand how humbling and rewarding this job could be ...but it also teaches you how underappreciated it can be ...considering how much hard work you have to put into it (for so little money)

I heard valley next semester will REQUIRE a CNA license... who knows ?

One of my nurses threw up after seeing a patient have and explosive bowl movement all over the floor. I told him you are cleaning up your own puke?. Defiantly not a job for someone with a weak stomach.

Hi everyone! I just sent my TEAS last week upon receipt of the invitation. I applied to Glendale, Pierce, COC, and Moorpark - was accepted to Moorpark but am also considering COC if admitted. I need to move by May 1st though so I'm leaning more towards Moorpark as COC may not send out admission decisions until April 30th. All the other schools don't make their decisions too late so I am probably not even going to proceed with my applications (i.e., sending my score in).

Good luck to everyone!

Drum roll please...I just got my status update.

I was issued a low cut score offer, remediation plan. Complete two to three classes, of the schools choice, with in a year with a B or better. Yay for second chances.

Good news is I have more time to study for the TEAS now instead of taking it this Friday, as ECC's is at the end of this month.

You will do great!!!!!!

Thank you for the encouragement! I was having a bittersweet moment.

Just keep at it WhiteRabbit78. It sounds like you will be a gift to the profession! I’ve been an LVN for some years now & have seen so much nursing staff, no matter if CNA, LVN or RN treat pts so degrading and cruel. It makes my heart twist when it happens because these pts depend on our help as they can’t do it for themselves. So, do those that need you a favor & get yourself into nursing school, cuz I can telll that you have the passion. Btw, I was invited to take the TEAS also, but decided to withdraw this round feeling that I’m not ready to take it & scoring 70 would render me dead. As for everyone else, best of luck for this Friday ❣️

I remember taking the TEAS at Pierce... and the proctor told us not to worry.... all we need is a 62 to pass and a person who has a 62 has the same chances of getting in there as someone who gets a 99... I couldn’t believe she said that... I understand that for Pierce that applies... but that does not apply for all nursing schools... lol
