Hello All:
Starting a thread for those of us applying to COC Summer/ Fall 2019 RN program. I am specifically applying to the LVN to RN program. Lets keep each other updated on status.
It's my understanding that the 5 lottery picks are those who make it to the TEAS invite portion but who don't make the lowest cutoff score for the multi-criteria points.
The remaining 45 chosen and the alternates are based on points.
It also seems like there are quite a few alternates and a lot of them get in because CoC is one of the first in the area to send acceptances. People accept their spots and then drop if they get accepted to another school that they prefer. In previous threads, I have seen 15 alternates who make it into the program, and one even said 22. So an alternate acceptance at CoC should give you hope.

The school uses a chancellors cut score to determine whether you will get a teas invite. The minimum is 70. If you score higher you get an invite. And then from their after taking the teas they will choose 5 random people. If you don’t make the chancellors cut score you don’t get an invite. But from my understand the way the calculate the score must not be super rigorous because a lot of people with lower gpa get invitations.

I would recommend you buy Pocketprep. Get the premium version I think it's $25. It gives you tons of practice questions on all of the subjects you'll be tested on and all of the questions are on point with the actual TEAS. It helped me get a 90.7% on my TEAS.

I agree that the way they calculate the cut score is not as rigorous as other programs because they take all the grades from the English courses you've taken instead of only taking the Freshman English course (i.e English 101). So if you don't do so well in English 101 but do amazing in English 102 then it will boost your cut score. LACC also does something similar.

Thank you! I have the mastery app, but I think I invest in pocket prep too.
April 5th the website was having issues. Called and was told they were still sending them out on that day. It is now Monday and still nothing. I was under the impression I would get an update on status either way, meaning even if I did not get a TEAS invite. Called today and they are saying they got a record amount of applications. They are still in the process of sending out emails.
I applied to another community college too. Received my TEAS invite ahead of schedule from them. Glad to already have moved forward in one application process...although two invites would be better. We put in so much work and this process is so stressful.
I apply to Pierce, Moorepark, Valley, Glendale, COC and Pasadena ... trust me applying to more schools may increase ur chances of starting nursing school... (athough some schools have more prerequisite requirements).... but yes COC is my first choice. I’m on 3rd application cycle and I know people who applied to all 6 and had to apply for 6 cycles.... unfortunately EVERYONE wants to be a nurse now.... so it’s a lot of competition.... I Can’t tell you how many people that Have their bachelors already and decided to change their field of study into nursing cause of the money... they have a Good chance cause of their bachelors... it’s tough competition out there

This is all very true. Have you heard any word on the other schools yet?

It’s based off of points. If you are chosen on the alternate list they will tell you what number on the waitlist you are.
