College of the Canyons nursing Fall 2015

Published

Hello everyone!

Felt the need to make this thread as I couldn't find one for the upcoming Fall semester at COC. Latest one was for Spring of this year but I'm applying for Fall 2015.

Hope that it eventually helps those that are applying/waiting.

Just turned in my application to COC. Also applied to AVC. Curious to as how everyone is feeling throughout this whole process.

I've taken the TEAS test already through AVC and scored an 83%. I've got a 3.0 GPA for A&P and micro. Overall GPA of 3.3. First time applying to both schools. Super anxious to hear back from both schools. Fingers crossed!!!

Anyone still planning on working while in the program? Also, anyone commenting from Palmdale/Lancaster if they do get in?

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. :) How's everyone doing with getting everything done? Anyone get uniforms yet and also, has anyone done the 10 drug test at US Healthworks?

I already did just about everything that is due on June 1st. I just need to pay Kaplan. I already did the 10 panel drug test at the U.S. Healthworks in Valencia.(They did have it; I took it on the day of orientation.Make sure you print out the flyer they gave us for the 10 panel drug test because that is the only way they can give you the discounted price.) I have not bought my uniform or shoes because they are not due to have until the first day of class which is August 24. How are things going for you? Have you purchased the uniforms yet?

Congrats @darling24!

Thank you very much @ jvzaragoza :)

-- Did any of you get your fire card already? If so, was it through COC (the class they offered)?

@jvaragoza did you have to make an appt for the drug test or are walk ins totally cool?

ive been looking at the uniforms just to get an idea of how much they are. Vista uniforms has them on their website for $19 and $18 I believe it was and they'll sew on the patch for free as well, if you buy the uniform from them. I just wanna check out sizing now, which I'll do next time I'm out there.

@darling24. No card for me yet. I'm probably going to go to the one COC has on the 30th, if I can get off from work that day.

@lambchops They only accept walk-ins, I tried making an appointment and they said that they don't make appointments for drug tests which is convenient.

@darling24 I have a fire card that I got as a requirement to enter the CNA program.(2 years ago & they are good for 4 years.) the class was like 6 hours but we spent like 1/2 of it watching a fire safety video.

Perfect. How long did they take to get your results? I read that if it was a clear drug test you'd get them in four hours. Were you able to pick up results same day @jvzaragoza?

I went on Friday, May 1st around 12:30pm and received my results via email on Monday, May 4th at 3:52 pm. (And mine was clear) But I also read that on their website that it was only supposed to do take 4 hours. Maybe if you call before you go and ask when you would receive your results you will get a more accurate response for your situation. But I do know you can receive via email, fax, or in person.

Ok, awesome. Thanks @jvzaragoza :)

Hey guys! or mostly girls :p. Congrats on getting in! I'm in my third semester in the program! You will all do great! Just study! I work 2 part time jobs and I'm in the CSUN cohort so I take 2 extra classes at CSUN while attending COC.

As for the drug test all 10 panels have to be sent out for verification or something like that. My friend works in a medical office and that is standard so it will take a couple days to receive the results if I'm not mistaken! But you can get the results emailed to you!

Feel free to ask me any questions about the program, etc. DM works too :)

Thanks erick2768!!! I'll definitely be sending you a message in the future!

SOME SUGGESTIONS!!!

DO NOT BUY ALL THE TEXTBOOKS! I made the mistake of buying everything on that list and we only used 3 textbooks and the drug guide. I would also suggest buying the drug guide as an App instead of the hard copy, works GREAT during clinical!!! Professors let you use your phones during clinical for drug look up! :( I have all 3 as PDF/eBooks which is a way cheaper option. I know how expensive it can be so PM for info.
