College of the Canyons nursing Fall 2015

Published

Hello everyone!

Felt the need to make this thread as I couldn't find one for the upcoming Fall semester at COC. Latest one was for Spring of this year but I'm applying for Fall 2015.

Hope that it eventually helps those that are applying/waiting.

Just turned in my application to COC. Also applied to AVC. Curious to as how everyone is feeling throughout this whole process.

I've taken the TEAS test already through AVC and scored an 83%. I've got a 3.0 GPA for A&P and micro. Overall GPA of 3.3. First time applying to both schools. Super anxious to hear back from both schools. Fingers crossed!!!

Anyone still planning on working while in the program? Also, anyone commenting from Palmdale/Lancaster if they do get in?

Thank you so much for your feedback on the success course! I really appreciate it:) I dropped it and will now be using that extra time to study on my own

Just an update. I talked to many professors and they said first semester success has been revamped. The way they described it make it seem like it would be a great aid to your studies. I would encourage all of you to take it.

Thats awesome good luck!!!

Im barely starting my prereqs for the program and i was wondering can you take the pre classes at avc and apply for the program at coc? How does that work... help!! lol I havent had the chance to speak to a counselor

Yes, you can take the prerequisites at AVC and apply to COC. You will just need to submit your official transcripts from AVC to COC. Some Tips to increase your chances in getting accepted:

1.Make sure you aim to get A's in your prerequisites.

2.Make sure you understand the material taught in your prerequisites(you will need to know how to apply this information in nursing school.)

3. Study for the TEAS exam at least 3 months prior so that you can score well.

4. Get experience in the field by getting your *CNA*, working as a caregiver, and/or volunteering in the healthcare industry.

5. Take as many classes that need to be taken to receive an associates prior to entering the nursing program(an associates is needed to receive your RN license)
