Hi Everyone!
I am starting this thread for anyone who has been accepted into the COC Fall 2014 Program.
My hope is that here, we can discuss everything from orientation to whatever! I have started working on folder 1 and folder 2. Everything in folder 2 must be received by the Nursing Department by 5/29.
See you all 4/25!!!! And congratulations!
CONGRATS TO YOU ALL!!!!! I'd love to befriend some of y'all. I plan on applying to COC in 2016 and I would love to be in touch with folks who are currently in the program, so I can hear how the program is and how things are going for you. Curiosity question: how many of you had previous health care experience (CNA, HHA, etc) before applying to nursing school? Where did you take care of your prereqs? I plan on taking mine at COC but I am open to other options, so I can get through my prereqs quicker.
Hey Calistudent!!! Welcome to the long but wonderful journey of NURSING!!!!
I do not have any healthcare experience. I have a 4.0 GPA in my nursing prereqs and i have a 3.8 cumulative GPA for all college coursework.
I did A&P I and Micro at PCC. That was my home college until i moved to Valencia. I took A&P II at COC since i live so close and was lucky to get in with such a low priority registration date.
My advice to you since you are applying for 2016 is as follows.....try not to overload yourself with sciences in one semester. I took A&P, english, math and speech one semester. Then i did micro, psych and history. Then i did A&P II. I did this while working full time. I would also recommend getting all of your degree requirements done before applying so when you get in, you can only worry about your RN classes without having to take additional classes during breaks. It may be the longer route by a semester or two, but nursing school is challenging enough without having to worry about GE classes.
Getting good grades is totally doable with a little planning and dedication.
As long as you are taking your prereqs at a CA community college, you will have no problem transferring in. Just be sure to check the nursing page every now and then for any changes to prereqs.
Great luck to you!!!!!!!
@Excited1 I already have a BA in another field, so half of the prereqs & additional grad requirement, I don't have to worry about. I only have to take A&P 1 & 2, Microbiology, Psychology and Math 070. What made me decide on COC was based on experiences friends had in the other nursing programs in the valley, I heard the most positive things about COC. Also COC is the only college that will accept my credits/grades for transfer from several years ago...every other school wanted me to start from scratch!
Ah yes...."recency" on prereqs do pose issues for previous degree holders.
If you have a Bachelors degree already, you should be cleared of having to take Math 070. Math 070 is intermediate algebra which is required for Associates degree graduation. Usually for bachelors they require higher level. Check into it either way just to be sure. No sense in spending the time and money on something you dont need :)
@Excited1 I did take Math 131 as part of my BA general ed requirement but on assist.org I couldn't find it at all but I will check on it with a counselor. It would be great to not have to worry about math it's not exactly my favorite subject. Are you going to do the COC-CSUN ADN-BSN program or just the straight COC ADN program and do a BSN bridge program at a later time? That is what I am trying to decide on what route to take in that respect now...so much to figure out I tell ya!
hey guys! long time ! so i got accepted to LAPC but I still think I am going with COC, we will see! I have a question for anyone who did their blood work at COC, the lab results they gave me was only 2 pages, HOWEVER it does say page 3 out of 4 and page 4 out of 4... i'm confused if I am missing two pages or this was the same for everyone else?
KELLYK, Nice to meet you I am taking medical terminology during Summer!!! please tell me you are in the morning class? I need a friend! haha
Also, the kaplan receipt, I never got an actual receipt so what do we send the school, does anyone know? gee I hope so. I can't wait to turn everything in Monday!

What about the collaboration program not offered to Fall students at COC and only the spring students? Is that a deal breaker for you?
