What would you think if a professional RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing who is in an upper level position in the workplace and who is even going to graduate school would eat her lunch with her hands, claiming metal utensils made her cringe and plastic is not always available? I'm talking about eating lasagna, mashed potatos, salad, dessert, etc. with her fingers, taking fingerfuls or using her fingers/hands to take the food and cram in her mouth, and it doesn't matter who is around, patients, family and visitors, the administrator...she acts oblivious to it all. Would you find this disturbing?
I'm very closely related to this person I seem so obsessed with. I worry her strangeness may get to the point of something bad happening to her as far as her career. She quit and walked/ran out last week after a huge blow up where she was cursing and screaming in front of several nurses including the DON. She drove around awhile and came back and is now the DON's " assistant." Management loves her but it could get to the point where she is a liability to the facility. After she left a CNA was actually worried this nurse might return with a gun. I know there was never any danger in that, but that people would worry about that is not good. She is on medication now and is very calm and subdued, but still has odd behaviors. The activities director saw her eating and said it turned her stomach. All kidding aside, I'm kind of worried for her.
Yeah, my guess is that the OP is actually an employee of allnurses....making this stuff up and keeping heated discussions going, ya know... good for business. People never fail to jump on these threads!
... or incredibly bitter. Wonder what she gets up to on the job ... hopefully she flies stuff here and finds out it ain't gonna get her what she wants (whatever that is) and so doesn't bother to pull it on a co-worker.

LOL, well hell, it entertained me! I guess I'm getting my $30 a year membership's worth!

Doubtful, in my dealings with admin, I have formed the impression that they do not promote drama of this nature.
I don't think it's your place to decide how others should eat. If you find it offensive, just go somewhere else to eat.Is it unprofessional for her not to use utensils? Maybe... but is it professional of you to let others' eating habits bother you so much.
Sorry to sound tough, but I've had to work with some really gross eaters. People habits vary, and you will find people with some strange ones. I used to have co-workers who brought in the smelliest nastiest things to eat. They'd heat them in the shared microwave, making the whole floor smell like warmed-over toe cheese. One of them was a hunter and loved "gamey" things and thought it was cool to bring in a still-bleeding fresh-killed whole deer head into the office building to show off "what he'd be eating later". Trust me: your friend who eats normal food with her hands really isn't so bad.
I respectfully disagree. When something is so far outside the norm, I think it is normal and human to be freaked out by it. What if a person liked to pee in the sink or belch and pass gas loudly. Eating lasagne with your hands is simply unacceptable and she should be told as much. Certain behavior is just not socially acceptable. period.

You are the problem and not her, I are not ganging up on this nurse coz she has chosen to use her hands. Hostile work enviroment could this be the case
