Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.
C'mon now!
Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.
C'mon now!
The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.
All together: C'mon now!!
Some things just make me shake my head.
Two "c'mons" from yesterday...
7th grader (frequent flier, I recently called her out for complaining of cramps 4 times over the course of 3 weeks, constant class avoidance) came to my office with... hiccups. Actually, the hiccups had stopped before she arrived. For serious????
Last period of the day, kid comes in saying he hasn't been feel well since first period... I asked him why he didn't come in sooner. No reason. I told him to tough through the last 14 minutes.
The kicker to me is that BOTH these kids had to go through at least one teacher to come to me with these complaints... C'mon now!!
5th grader: I'm cold and have the chills. I think I might have a fever.
Me: Nope, I think you're wearing a tank top and shorts when it's 34 degrees outside.
5th: oh
4th grader: My ears are like really hurting, both of them.
me: were you just outside?
4th: Yes, it's really cold.
me: (looking at bright red ears) I know, did you wear a hat?
4th: No. Do you think I have ear infection?
me: No, I think your ears are frozen. Here's a warm paper towel.

I just called home for a kid who tripped and hurt his shoulder. Dad came to pick him up on a motorcycle. A motorcycle. For a kid who I just called to tell you has hurt his arm badly enough that he needs to be picked up. Now the kid is still sitting in my office, crying in pain while his dad goes home to get the car. C'mon now!
Just had a first grader come see me- holding the side of his head
1st "I have a big bump on my head"
Me: "did you hit your head? Let me see"
1st: "I didn't hit it, I just felt it"
Me: checking out his noggin- "Oh, hunny, that's just how your head is shaped" and he skipped off. Saved another life:)

**UPDATE** Displaced fracture of clavicle. No motorcycle rides in his near future.
Kid just came into my office for a paper cut. Now, I don't have a problem with giving out a bandaid for papercuts. But this kid came with a helper kid. He is in 3rd grade, he is one of my daily med kids, so he knows the way forward and backward, and there was not a sufficient amount of blood loss from his paper cut to warrant extra supervision. C'mon now!
Student lying on the cot, in my clinic, ice pack on their head, when I returned from another school. Complaints of "I fell off the monkey bars 5 times and I'm not sure what to do or why that keeps happening". You mean, you fell from the monkey bars because your hands slipped while you were trying to master the art of monkey barring and you have no injuries? So basically you were simply playing and were unable to successfully cross the monkey bars and thought you should see the nurse? C'mon now!
I had student complaining of dizziness, no other symptoms. Had a stomachache the night before, told me that her mother gave her prescription pain medication to take. Thing is, Mom was recently pretty badly injured and I had visions of what the heck this kid took, especially given she is at least 100 lbs lighter...

She may have given her something strong, but the dose is surprisingly similar for kids and adults. My 80lb daughter was prescribed the same dose as my mother for their respective broken arms. Norco 10/325

I suppose I should have clarified that I was talking about sticker burrs and not the character filled sticky papers
I really didn't think they had poison in them either, but I've been wrong before soooo.....gonna love that rumor when it starts to get around though!!
