i am the only CMA where i work. there are about 8-9 nurses. For some reason, all of them think they are better than me just because they are nurses. in fact, i do most of their job. They get paid 30-40hr while i do most of their work for less than half that. I asked for more money, but my reply was "the nurses have to use their brain more" Then i started thinking of going back to get my RN degree. The minute i said something, all the other nurses "all of a sudden" wanted to go back to school. This made me think that they are trying to compete with me and not be equal to me. Most of them are lazy and really dont respect me. Whenever i have a problem with one of them, the NCM does not have my back. But believe me, she has theirs. I do know that there are other reasons why they do that i dont wish to get into. So i have decided not to express any interested of going back to school-at least to them. I have decided to be an ultrasound tech.
Anyway, I just think just because nurses give meds and CMA dont, we should get the same pay. I know that many people would disagree but thats my opinon
Well, if you go back and read the post, you will see that you are attacking your nurses without regard to their feelings. Maybe you will be lucky and they will see your post online and confront you about your concern of not being paid the same because you chose to go an easier route in order to get a job sooner. I hope that their lack of disregard for the amount of work you put in at the office encourages you to become a nurse so that you can reap the benefits they have busted their a@%%#$ for. Nothing in life is free and anything good is gonna drag you through the mud, whip your A%$ 10 times and still leaving you thinking you don't have a clue. I am an LPN and I get the gist of your complaints. But it was ME that chose to become and LPN first, not the RNs that I work with. Sure I want the same money because I do almost all of the tasks the RN does. The key word here is ALMOST and I am gonna get it the way it should be with the determination being on my own accord because I want to better myself and feel I deserve more. Everyone finds their happiness in life whatever it is. It seems to me that you are expressing a lot of regret and anguish because you either can't go back to school or you don't want to work in order to make more money. Rather than come here and rant on my fellows, use the site below to help you vent. The forum has been highlighted in the middle of the page and I am sure there are others there that would like to jump on your band wagon. Good luck, and watch that door, because no one else is gonna do it for you.
my manager and me had already had this discussion some time ago. half the nurses at work dont even know how to use the internet so i doubt if they read it. Congrats on you transformation to LPN. I am already registered for fall classes as Ultrasound tech. You dont know me and i dont know you so to say you get the gist of where i am coming from, dont think so.

Are you always so pleasant or are we just lucky?? You couldn't be more rude.
After your 8 hour shift is done, you do not take any of these folks home with you...
Ahhh, but we DO take our patients home with us when we leave sometimes. Often, in fact. Not on our backs, but in our minds and souls instead. If one of my patients was actively dying as shift changed, I was unable to simply flip a switch and quit caring until my next shift. Most of us are like that because if we aren't, we won't last. That's true whether we are nurses (RNs and LPNs and students) or C.N.A.s or C.N.A.s. PTs, OTs etc. You write from the very idealistic viewpoint of a very young idealistic person.
(I deliberately did not use the word "kid") and I hope you can keep that idealism as you grow older and are in the workforce longer because you sound as though you care. Please try not to be so angry and bitter. It eats away at your soul like battery acid over time.

but you dont respect my views.
Respect is earned.
Your views do not merit respect. Our system in this country places value on education level, associated responsibility, and market demand. Merely "Working hard" does not merit the same value.
If it did, you'd see garbagemen paid higher than dermatologists.

Ya mean I coulda stayed at home, gone to a tech school or community college for two years, become a C.M.A. and been able to what an RN does? And here I went to a major research university in a large city for six long years. The money I could have saved my parents if only we had known!
