CMA need same pay as RN

Nursing Students CNA/MA

i am the only CMA where i work. there are about 8-9 nurses. For some reason, all of them think they are better than me just because they are nurses. in fact, i do most of their job. They get paid 30-40hr while i do most of their work for less than half that. I asked for more money, but my reply was "the nurses have to use their brain more" Then i started thinking of going back to get my RN degree. The minute i said something, all the other nurses "all of a sudden" wanted to go back to school. This made me think that they are trying to compete with me and not be equal to me. Most of them are lazy and really dont respect me. Whenever i have a problem with one of them, the NCM does not have my back. But believe me, she has theirs. I do know that there are other reasons why they do that i dont wish to get into. So i have decided not to express any interested of going back to school-at least to them. I have decided to be an ultrasound tech.

Anyway, I just think just because nurses give meds and CMA dont, we should get the same pay. I know that many people would disagree but thats my opinon

you can have your snobby forum, i was just positing my opinion! Move on!!!!

I'm sorry...are you telling me to "move on"?!?

Your opinion is lacking substance and you're disrespectful..if you don't like hearing that, then you need to move on.

We're not snobby, but we did work very hard for our RN lisences, and we don't like it when people come on here and don't respect our hard work. You seem to have no idea what being an RN entails. Maybe someday you'll truly understand.

Christine, you say it so nicely...I wanna be you when I grow up :D

I'd say I'm PMSing, but I don't think that's possible LOL

i simply gave my opinion about something and everyone is ganging up on me. Maybe some day i will understand. but dont attack me just because of something that i belive in. i still stand by my belief that the pay should be equal. I didnt make the rule. With that, please more replies. Lets move on! Thanks

i don't think anyone was disrespecting you, OP. as a CMA, you do not hold a license and therefore you are not able to perform the same tasks as a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse, and are not entitled to the same pay as those who are licensed and hold a degree in nursing.

with more education comes more pay. and respect is earned, no matter what degree you hold.

good luck to you.

im confused where did OP come from in your statement?

I do respect your opinion; I do agree that CMAS are vital to the health care team and I want to say thanks to you and all the cma out there for a tremendous job. However as a REGISTERED NURSE I have to educate you and tell you that you have the right to feel the way you do. I just learned from you that the difference of a cma and RN is only that :down:we can administer meds and you can't. Well I have to say that its very ignorant on your part and I feel offended by such comments. Maybe you are the problem on your floor, voicing ridiculous feelings and atrocious ideas. You stated your feelings and I have just stated my facts.

PLEASE GET EDUCATED

i totally disagree. you once being a CMA yourself didnt use your brain??? The only difference is your paycheck!!! which proves my point how much nurses think they are better. They are so paranoid that they will lose their liscense. i dont want to be like that which is why im not going to be an RN

I was an MA for 6 years, and a supervising MA at that. I worked under nurses and saw what they did. Yes I did alot of work too. (In my SCOPE of practice) I am now an RN, and I do not look down to those under me. But as an MA I could not educate, assess, give meds, IV's, interventions, delegate, prioritize, need I go on. I was very proud to be a RMA and worked hard to supervise 8 other MA's. But to get respect, you must give respect. I say you go work in another office, if what you say is true.
