i thought this would be a great place for us to ask each other questions and help each other out with concerns, school work etc... during the next year.
please feel free to join if you are starting your lpn program this fall. :balloons:
my name is michelle, i'm 30 and i live in virginia. i'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
Yes, please come back and visit us. I'm sure we would all appreciate hearing about your experiances! Me especially, since I will be going to school in TX. By the way, what part of TX did you attend school? north, south, central, etc.? Just curious.
I went to Memorial Hermann School of Vocational Nursing in Houston TX. It was a 1 yr Jan-Dec program with tons of clinical time. Great instructors and overall great program. Feel free to contact me anytime.
i am sooo happy to see that there is a sticky for those of us in the lpn program! :)
i have enjoyed reading about everyone and where they are at in their lives and where they are going to school..:)
my name is lisa ..i am 47, happily married and have two children - a 24 yr old daughter and a 22 yr old son. yup..i am a late bloomer folks with school!! lol
well...hope you don't mind if i join you guys here as i just received my acceptance letter today (yahhhhoooooooooooo!!) for the fall program at fccj in jacksonville, fl.!! :balloons: our orientation is august 11th and so much to do before that..background checks , physicals and such.
my goal is either to bridge to the rn at some point or possibly to work towards my bsn while working as an lpn. actually, i have already finished all my prereqs for the rn - but the wait time is horrendous here to get in any of the rn programs...i feel so positive about doing the lpn program tho and very very excited!!
just curious ..how long is everyone's program? mine is 11 mos. and we can take the iv therapy course after graduation.
lisa
the late bloomer..:)
Hi Lisa
Don't worry, I am a late bloomer also, (will be 40 in Sept.) !!!!
Congrats !! I was very excited also when the letter finally arrived, my orientation is Aug 16th and school can't start soon enough for me.
The length of my program is 15 months, here in PA
Please comeback and let us know how your orientation went!!
See you on the boards
Ok Guys...I'm almost 46 yrs old, married alomost 23 yrs, two daughters, one in college, and I start LPN school in Sept here in NY!
I am so excited and scared at the same time. I've worked in w/ people with severe disabilites for 25 yrs, the last 6 or so in high levels of Admin and I miss direct care so much that I am going to nursing school to get back to my roots.
So I hope that we can stay in touch as we each progress toward our goals.

Hi, everyone! First and formost I would like to say CONGRADULATIONS to all the new LPN students. I know everyone is just as excited as I am. I am 30 years old from Gastonia, N.C. I am married with a 13 year old son. (He goes back to school the same day my program starts, he thinks thats so cool lol.) My program starts August 22. It is a 12 month program. GOODLUCK to everyone, and looking to forward to meeting and chatting with all of you. Dee
Just got back from nursing school orientation - 9 hours long plus an hour for lunch! I'm afraid it was not quite the nurturing experience that Dot (in an earlier post) was fortunate enough to find at her school. Seems like the weeding out process has already begun.
While the instructors attempted to insert some humor into their speeches, it was made crystal clear that they had high expectations that had darn well better be met - or else! Don't give 'em excuses because they don't want to hear 'em.
Interestingly though, while all these strict "do's and don'ts" were being laid down to us all day, it turned out that at least a half of the students didn't bring the "required" documents (transcripts, CPR card, shot records, etc.) due today for our students files. So, the deadline to submit the documents was extended for 3 more weeks! (Hmmmm.... must mean if enough of us screw up, the rules change!) :rotfl:
Oh, and while our books won't be in for several more weeks, we have already been assigned HOMEWORK (2 classes, 6 chapters each, w/all chapter review/pre-test questions) that is due the first day of school. We also need to review our nursing school handbook so we can be tested on that the first day, too. Hit the ground running (ya think)! :stone
Oh well, I guess I will just plan to keep my head down and work. I suppose that is all they really want - and what I planned on doing anyway. See ya fellow stu's - I deserve of wine (or 2) after this day!!!
Finally, after all the school searching, all the entrance exams, all of the decision making and nights spent awake with the cold sweats -- I finally enrolled and am scheduled to start this October! WOO HOO! Now if I can just keep my life together, figure out how to pay back all of the loans, and keep my posts on this site from being removed (HEE HEE) :chuckle - I think I'll be okay! I'm also 31, three kids (15, 10 and 5), work full-time (obviously will need to change that schedule here very soon!! Yipee!!! Somebody slap me.
