Hi Everyone! I also start LPN school in August. I got accepted on my first try. I am a 39 yr old male and live in NC. Have worked as a corrections officer in a medium security prison for the last 9 yrs and have finally reached burn out! I just can't do it anymore. I will be ecstatic to give them my 2 week notice in August!! I am a little concerned about making a career change at my age, but people do it all the time, so it's really not a big deal. Also concerned about financial help, but it will all work out. We have to stay positive and focused! If it wasn't meant for me to succeed, I wouldn't have been accepted in the first place, right?? Good luck everybody!!

How long are your programs? Mine is 15 months of actual in-room/clinical classtime, so figure it to be 17 months from start to graduation. It starts out with a 6 week CNA training course. Is this the norm?
My class won't start until mid October. I'm thinking I might just do the CNA training with the Red Cross now and work part time.. Then I can skip the first 6 weeks of the practical nursing program.
Oh yeah, I'm 41 and have 3 girls ages 7, 11 and 14.

i haven't even received my acceptance letter yet! so, yeah, i'm getting nervous. i know i'm in for august but i really can't wait for that letter to get here. i'm anxious to see when our orientation is and all.
i'd love to start getting some of the required "stuff" so i don't have to cram everything into the first month (speaking of money). i know uniforms are something i have to get thru the school but i'd love to know about shoes, stethoscopes, watches, etc.

i thought i was in for august as well. i happened to e-mail the school to ask some other questions and found out that i'm not starting until october!

That's disappointing! My school only starts LPN in August. I got news from the Program Chair's office that I was the top scorer on the entrance test. I was also told by the Chair that they didn't have a list yet because there were some people whose GPA's were on the line at 1.9 (you have to have a 2.0 to get in) and they were waiting for all the grades to come in from this last semester so they could see if those GPA's went up. Knowing all of that is great, but still...having that letter in my hand will feel so much better!
