I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!
Where's the 40+ club?:) I am 43, just got accepted into an Accelerated BSN program after a year of prerequisites. New professional life, here I come.

I know what you both mean. I scored 97 in A&P and 98 in Micro. Then one student said, "oh that is why you score so high, you don't have a job". EXCUSE ME! I have 8 kids, thank you very much and that is more than a job, and I study hard! Then she proceeded to study for the next (during a 20 minute break) test while having a video chat with someone. I think I see her problem.
I'm 42 and half way through my prerequisites. It's very scary and exciting at the same time. I really have a calling to be a Hospice Nurse. It's so comforting to see others in my age group ! My two step-daughters are both nurses and when I asked them what they thought about me going to school to be a nurse they were very supportive and encouraged me to go for it:) My worst fear are the math classes.
Hello to all!! I am 39 I started this journey at 38. I have taken all but three pre-reqs and I have applied to my nursing program. I am taking the Hesi A2 on the 23rd of this month once accepted I start on Sept 2nd. I have 4 children their ages are 20 16, 15 and 10!!! They are all supportive of my dream of becoming a nurse. Here's to us.... We can do this after all we have birth to children right??!! Lol! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com[/quote']What school did you apply with the HESI being offered?
This is my dilemma as well. I was pursing my masters in social work (MSW) and stopped because I wasn't sure if it made sense to rack up so much debt for a job that would not pay more than my current one. SW is a good field but I am in a related field and I can't say I love it. Also nursing would allow me to do similar work for more money and less debt (I wanted to be public health medical social worker). The problem is I would have to quit my job since there is no way I could work f/t, do a absn program and be a wife/mother (its hard enough doing p/t time studies). Funny enough my husband is pretty supportive its just me who is scared but I can't seem to leave nursing alone (I never quit a job in my life!). If I had to do all over again, I would have been a nurse from day one, or at least been in some type of medical field.
take it from a current msw working in the field, you're making a good choice. i'm finishing up pre-reqs to apply to the jan 2015 part time program and potentially a career change upon completion. I'm planning on continuing to a bsn after a year of experience and may end up trying for a position in the administrative side of nursing after that.
I can tell you social work, while an honorable and rewarding field, pays horribly. I think nursing will allow me to do what I like and actually be able to LIVE rather than struggle to survive.

Where I go to school we had to take a semester of Anatomy and then a semester of Physio. After two semesters of watching other people be that "top" student (I had A's but they had darn near A+), I decided that come Micro time I was going to be the student that everyone, including myself, looked at with envy/jealousy come test score time. So, I tweaked my studying methods and never stopped telling myself "if they can do it, I can do it". And you are right its all about studying studying studying and making it fun. I ended up being the only person with an A that semester (99%) and was asked many times by others what tricks I used when I studied, do I use you tube, kahn academy etc, and I just said "no, I read everything, the book, lab manual, handouts and I don't move on until I completely understand each page." Even if I didnt know what a scientific word/term meant, I looked it up. Sometimes the definition of that word/term required another word/term to be looked up and so on.
Congrats on your class standing! Keep up the good work!
