San Joaquin Delta College ADN Fall 2014
Im also a 1st semester student. I was one of the people who took Eng33 and regret, regret, regret it. The assignments are all online, super easy, but they do take time away from more important things......Like reading!!! There is a TON of reading. Dont underestimate the reading. The Eng 33 class does give you full time status and it was nice to hear from the guest speakers, but if I could rewind time I would not have registered for it. Out of 40 people in our cohort, 30 people took the class. It was a great way to get familiar with everyone before school started, but our Facebook page pretty much did that for us anyways. As for Prep U. It is the most wonderful thing ever!!! Its basically a ton of Nclex style tests questions regarding the fundamentals chapters. The questions get more in depth as you rank up. The first 9 weeks I got up to 2,000 questions. DO PREP U! Its not required, but its the best way to study. I got an A in the course and relied heavily on Prep U. It gives great rationale for the answers to the questions whether right or wrong. Think maybe you are an alternate?? Our semester took 13 alternates. I know that is always a big question. The last alternate was called the night before school started. I believe the minimum points ended up being about 64. Good Luck!

Thank you for giving us the heads up about the class. I registered for my nursing classes a couple days ago and was pretty iffy about taking the class, but I did end up registering for it. I figured i could drop it later if I change my mind. I dont think that I will drop it now. You have me sold. It sounds very promising and I completely agree that it will be a great way to get used to school life again before ADN classes.

HELP!!!!
Never skip class and always stay on task. Do the chapter reading before hand, print out the teacher's lectures (if he/she uses slides) and take notes on those for any added points from the lecture. Plus this helps you focus as the class is moving on. Its easier to tell if they are rambling off topic if what they are saying doesnt pertain to the slide. Then go home and within a day or 2, go through your book and the lectures at the same time. Re-read only the sections of the book that go with the given lecture slides, and highlight in your lectures slides of the things that the book matches topic with. AND always look up what you dont know, or may not remember. Even if it is something simple. Actually knowing a concept and thinking you might have an idea of a concept is key. It never hurts to back read a little for a minute of two. I always used wiki to supplement as I was reading.

Alternate #5 is an emotional rollercoaster ride
@chelsea13 I agree. Knowing where you stand does make it easier to plan. It does sound sound hopeful considering the wait list is short. I wish you luck.

Yikes, what was your joke? Did she really think you were trying to bribe her? lol. I'm very very thankful I have a pseudo position. Im hearing about 900 people applied, but its a curse and a blessing knowing my alternate number. Good luck to you...hopefully you will not have to be wait listed for very long.

Alternate #5 is an emotional rollercoaster ride
I feel like I am stuck in limbo. My school takes 40 students by merit, and I am number 45. Overall it feels great to be considered an alternate and towards the top of the list to say the least, but I cant celebrate. I was given all of the same documentation that those accepted had received, just in case I get the call, but I cant celebrate. I am an optimistic person, one who usually sees the glass as half full, but this week has been a rough one. I want so badly to shout to the world "I GOT IN!" but I cant. Getting the call, not getting the call. In, not in. Where do I stand? Reading some back dated posts from my program shows me that it is possible that I will be called. Last semester they called 13. 13! Thirteen first choice applicants had to decline their spots in the program so those waiting as alternates can celebrate too. So #5 feels like a shoe in, right? But I cant celebrate, not yet. I'm stuck in limbo. I applaud those who did get in. I know first hand the hard work it took to get to that place. I am not jealous, I am not bitter, and I am not regretful. I admit it is hard seeing the timeline that was given to those that got accepted. I know when their E-docs are due, when they register for 1st semester nursing classes, when they walk together as a group to take nursing badge photos, and when they attend scrub fittings. If I'm called to duty late in the game and miss all the "group stuff", its o.k!! Sigh. I'll only be bummed for a minute. However, I just want my chance to celebrate even if its late, solo, and goes unnoticed. So here's to all of you picked as an alternate. May we all get the call of our life, and a quick opportunity to celebrate before the madness. CHEERS!!

I was reading that they will be sending that part to your delta email. In appendix A of the checklist it says that there will be information in an email sent to you, so that you can accept or decline electronically.
