I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

Specializes in Urgent Care, Pulmonary Med, Primary Care.

I'm 30, married, and just getting into my pre reqs for the BSN. I currently work part time and support my husband whom is also in college as well.

Empty nester in metro Atlanta.

Hi there! I'm 30, a mom and work fulltime as a CMA. It's time to get to work! After 7 years in the medical field, it's time to take it up a notch and move forward! With the support of the Doctor's and my family, I'm giving it a go! Let's do this! I'm enrolled in my prerequisites (English 101 and Biology). Ready to work!

Specializes in Hospice.
Um, 50 and just got accepted into the VN program at a local CC. Did the combined A&P class (plus lab, which wasn't a prereq), Math for Healthcare professionals (dimensional analysis) and intro VN class for prereqs. General Ed I had from my previous degree (B.S. Comp. Sci.) and I've got a good start on the prereqs for ADN/BSN - doing intro chemistry right now & will get Anatomy, Physiology & Microbiology after I've done my VN. Plus a speech course and a foreign language course to finish up the prereqs for ADN/BSN.

Didn't find freshman comp (English 101) all that challenging, sorry. A&P wasn't all that tough either - however, Math for Healthcare Professionals and Intro Chem either did or are kicking my furless bootay. Math is far and away my weakest subject, but I'm very, very good at life sciences and English.

Best of luck to all - you can do it!

:roflmao: Your furless bootay! LOL I agree with you here, Math for Allied Health wasn't my thing either, I HATE MATH. Somehow managed an A in that class, have no idea how. They stressed dimensional analysis but I seemed to be more comfortable with the proportion method for dosage calculations. But I can see what they are saying, you do get a more accurate answer with dimensional analysis, so I will be practicing that this summer before nursing school starts in August. ENG is my forte so I'm hoping for some papers to write to bump my grade. Science is not my strong suit either, but after my last A & P class, I started getting it and got an A in that as well. It took a few semesters of school for me to get my brain back in learning mode, but I think as older students (I'll be 50 in August when I start nursing school) we have the added benefit of having added many pathways in our brains from a lifetime of experiences!!!! (At least, that's my theory!)

I'm a 43 Y.O. married, SAHM of 1, still in the process of completing prereqs. I have to take chemistry, A&P 1 and 2, microbiology and college algebra. Trying to get these knocked out so that I can finally apply for nursing school.

I am 33 years old, married and caring for a niece and nephew. started 2 years ago with prereq's and am finally starting nursing school at bevill in the fall.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics.

I am 30, married with a 2 year old son. This is going to be my second attempt at nursing school. The first time I wasn't ready and ended up dropping out. However, I still had aspirations of becoming a nurse and I believe that God has lead me to this path now. I am waiting to know if I have been accepted.

I'm 42 years old, mom of 2 boys- 22 & 17, and I'm finishing up my prereqs to start my BSN program in January. I don't think I've ever been happier...I'm having a blast! I also work full time, but there's something about being in a place you know you're supposed to be that is incredibly rewarding. My graduation date is May 2016. Yeeehaw!!

Specializes in CNA so far!.

I turn 40 in January and I will begin my college career on Aug. 19th 2013! I come from a long line of RN's and there is much expected of me! At first I rebelled and became a casino dealer but the economy quickly put an end to that dream! lol! I worked as a CNA from 1993 to 2002. I worked for agencies that staffed me to med surg floors, SNU units, psych wards & telemetry. I'm familiar with wound care and I am READY TO GET IN THE GAME!!!! Eventually I want to become a Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

As for classes, I tested out of Eng. 101 & 102 and went straight to 105. I had to have another 3 hours of Eng so I'm taking Greek & Roman Mythology. Not sure what that will have to do with patient care but maybe the Latin that I was forced to learn in my private, Catholic grade school will come in handy! lol!!!

Specializes in CNA so far!.

You're never too old to learn! Good for you!!!:cat:

Hi Everyone I am 50 and I am doing prerequisites to go for a LPN Program at my community college.

I will be 51 when I get into the program and 52 when I graduate. I took care of my mother, who was a

LPN, because of COPD and Asthma for 10 years and thought I should go for nursing since I was the caregiver

to my mother for so long. I think my mother is looking down from heaven and smiling.

Awww, that's great that you are doing this! Sorry about your momma. Mine is a frail 74 year old with posterior nosebleeds which have been occurring far too frequently lately, so I am worried about her. BUT, here I am, at 49, will be 50 when my program starts (ADN) and everyonein my class has posted their introductions and pics on BB and so far, yep, as I suspected would be the case, I am the OLDEST. UGH!:banghead:

I'm 38 and starting my prerequisites again after a 15 year break to raise my son. In the meanwhile, I've become an IBCLC! I'm hoping to complete my BSN by 2017.
