Starting A&P I in January
I am 42 years old, and, after two full years, just finished my prerequisites and will be starting nursing school in January. My son graduated college before me! I bought most of my books on Craigslist and have sold many of them there as well. Older editions usually work well and are much less expensive. Some instructors don't even require books. Make sure you have a quiet place you can study. Your kids are old enough to do a lot for themselves- let them! Choose your battles wisely. Most of all- have fun!! School is a lot of work, but I have had a blast! I love hanging out with the younger students! They teach me so much, and I have developed some really neat relationships. Work hard, study hard, and remember each day what a privilege it is that we can be where we are. Best of luck to you!!

Recording Lectures
Although I won't start nursing classes until January, I recorded all my A & P lectures. I have a cheap voice recorder that I got for $5 on craigslist. When I got home from each class, I listened again to the lectures and recopied my notes neatly into a separate notebook. I'm hoping I can use the same technique as a NS. It worked very well for me.

How can I manage school, work, & family??
Lower your expectations! A clean house and full course meals seemed to lose when prioritizing. I enjoyed more having a happy family

School accreditation
Thank you- very helpful!

School accreditation
Thank you! What if it's not regionally accredited? What problems might I run into later? I've come so far that I really don't want to change programs unless it's absolutely necessary.

School accreditation
I am starting nursing school in January and have recently started hearing rumors about the accreditation of the school I will be attending. I checked online, and everything seems to be in order. I also called the state board of nursing, and they said my school was approved by them and CCNE accredited. I plan on going back for my master's degree after I complete my BSN, but I've heard that some colleges may not accept my degree. Again, these are only rumors that I've been hearing, but I'm concerned that I may not be asking the appropriate questions. Can someone tell me what I should be looking for?

Science ADVICE! Where to begin.....
Really? You have a 4.0 and read medical books just for fun? You are going to do fine in the science classes. They are much easier when you have an interest in the material, and it sounds like you will. I would only recommend taking Biology before A&P and Microbiology. Good luck!

Frustrations of an older student
I understand how you feel. My CC, however, gives a ONE time academic renewal. If you screw up when u are young, you get one chance to get those classes taken out of you GPA. I'm 42 and earned an F in a computer class 20 years ago. I couldn't retake it because they no longer offer that particular class. I had to prove that I was serious this time, and now they don't figure it into my GPA. It does still show up on my transcript though. Don't let it deter you. If they look at everything objectively, perhaps they will take everything into consideration. Good luck!

Going Back...
I'm 42 and have been working on my prereqs for 2 years. I'll start my RN program in January. HAVE FUN! I have loved learning, I've loved being around younger people, and I've loved excelling academically. If you don't enjoy it, it will be very tedious- it's a lot of hard work. Be prepared to give it all you've got. Good luck!!

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
You are amazing, Ms. G! If nursing is your passion, it's because God put that passion in you, and He will enable you to see it through. You should be very proud of yourself for not giving in to discouragement! Best of luck to you.. You rock!

30+ club! Lets do this together.
I'm 42 years old, mom of 2 boys- 22 & 17, and I'm finishing up my prereqs to start my BSN program in January. I don't think I've ever been happier...I'm having a blast! I also work full time, but there's something about being in a place you know you're supposed to be that is incredibly rewarding. My graduation date is May 2016. Yeeehaw!!

Did you score higher than 90 on TEAS V?
I took it in March and got a 95.3% over all. I hear so many people say they ran out of time..especially in the math portion. Be sure to brush up on fractions, long division, multiplication, and basic algebra. Get a hold of a workbook and work the problems over and over again. Best of luck to ya!!
