Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
Thank you so much for the feedback! I currently have a 3.2 total GPA and since I'm planning on retaking some classes, it'll hopefully go up to at least a 3.6 total GPA. As for the TEAS test, I'm mos def aiming to get an 80 or higher. Good luck on the CP program! I took it in May and I'm now certified. I'm thinking off working as a CP to get some experience. Also, I'm still selling my CP scrubs and book. Let me know if you're interested! -Alyssa

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
Hey Christina! Yes, you will need to complete those 7 pre-requisites before you apply for the program. Microbio is a pre-requisite also, but you don't need to complete it before you apply. Like it says on the SCOHS site, you can complete that course before January 2014. Since you're a 2nd degree applicant, they unfortunately will not accept any other PSY courses. You'll need to complete DEV PSY before you apply. Your pre-requisite grades are pretty good! Unfortunately, 2.75 overall college GPA is pretty low for nursing programs. BUT just your luck, Sentara only focuses on those 7 main classes :) Also your TEAS Test score, so make sure you do well on that. I applied for the 2013 start date, but I didn't get accepted because of my TEAS Test score. I would've gotten in if I had done well on the test. I also considered TCC, but I decided that Sentara would be a better choice because you graduate with a BSN degree. I know a majority of hospitals in most states prefer/require BSN degree holders. Plus, TCC is VERY unorganized and I know the program has a crazy wait list. I'm not sure if that applies for Sentara as well, you'll have to speak with them about that. Also, Sentara is a public college. Just like any nursing programs, Sentara's BSN program is competitive. Like I said before, they mostly look at those 7 main classes and your TEAS test score. The better your GPA is on those 7 classes and the better your TEAS score is, the greater your chances of getting accepted into the program. As for the TEAS exam, I'm not sure if you can take it in Florida. You will have to speak directly to them about that. Hope I answered some of your questions! Let me know if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to come and ask me. Good luck and hopefully we BOTH get accepted! :) -Alyssa

Thank you! Also, do you happen to still have ATI's Study Manual for the TEAS test? If so, if you're planning on selling it. I'll be happy to buy it from you! :)

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
Hopefully we do, best of luck to your friend! Eh, my score is REALLY low. My adjusted individual total score was a 58.0% which is most definitely crappy. I knew I wasn't going to get accepted after I was done with the test. It's okay though, things happen for a reason! I'll definitely study harder and prepare myself. Unfortunately, Sentara's currently not a TEAS testing site. It sucks because that means I'll have to take it outside of the school and it costs about $110 to test. So expensive! Anyway, I have B's in my 5 core classes except for A&P II which I have a C in. Also, thanks! I'm planning on retaking 4 out of the 7 core classes and that should give me at least a 3.5 GPA on the core classes and a 3.6 GPA overall. Oh and it's 7 now because they recently added Comp I and Comp II to the previous 5. No problem, just shoot me an email at [email protected] about the books and uniform! -Alyssa

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
Hey Jolena! First off, CONGRATS on getting accepted! :yeah:Unfortunately, I didn't get accepted due to my TEAS test score. I was going to take it twice; however, I only took it once due to personal reasons. On the day I was supposed to take the 1st test, I was terribly sick so I couldn't take it. On the 2nd test, I wasn't feeling good either. I was going through a lot at the time. BUT it's okay, I'm not sad or upset. I'm far from discouraged! I'm applying for the next group, the 2014 start date. Also, I'm retaking some classes either this semester or spring semester so that I can raise my GPA a bit. If you don't mind me asking, what was your TEAS test score and GPA? I'm just trying to see if I really do have a shot on getting accepted. *crosses fingers* Anyway, I'm sure you'll do amazing! By the way, have you finished the Care Partner course yet? If not, I'm selling my uniform (top - Medium and bottom - Large). I also have the book for sale. Let me know if you're interested! :) -Alyssa

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
All my pre-requisites are completed and I turned in my BSN program application. All I need to do is take the TEAS test and that'll be in about a week and a half. I'm hoping to get a high TEAS score so that can somehow overshadow my GPA. I'm not sure if I can re-take some classes over to raise my GPA since I completed all of my pre-reqs already. I'll definitely ask though. Thank you so much for responding! Your comment really made me a lot better and gave me some hope :) Good luck with everything, and thank you again! -Alyssa

Sentara College of Health Sciences - BSN Program - 3.2 GPA good enough?
Hey guys, I just finished the last pre-requisites needed for the Traditional BSN program at Sentara. The application deadline is June 8 and I'm applying as soon as I get my final grades from this semester at TCC. Sentara now only requires the pre-requisites GPA and not the cumulative. I calculated mine and it turns out to be 3.2 GPA. I know nursing programs are very competitive and because of that, I'm worried that my GPA won't be enough to be considered in the program. I have been told that Sentara's factors of acceptance are based on the GPA and the pre-admission (TEAS) test score. Though I'm confident that I'll score high in the TEAS test, I'm still worried that my GPA won't be good enough for the program. I am hoping and praying that I do get a high score in the TEAS test so that maybe that can somehow overshadow my rather low GPA. If any of you are current Sentara students in the Traditional BSN program or students in any BSN program, do you guys think that a 3.2 GPA will be good enough? Or do I need to re-take some classes to raise my GPA? I would like to retake some classes to raise my GPA; however, if I do, I would start the BSN program in August 2014 instead of August 2013 and graduate in 2016 instead of 2015. I'm honestly not trying to spend all my time in school. I just want to get my BSN degree already and start my career. I would really appreciate your feedback. -Alyssa

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
Oh man, sorry to hear that! But please don't be discouraged! I heard the online assessments are a bit tougher than the real deal. Best of luck to you! Also, are there any major differences between online assessments A and B? Or are they pretty much similar? -Alyssa

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
I'm taking mine after I'm finished with my last pre-reqs which are A&P II and Microbio, so hopefully most of the info will stick. But thank you so much for your feedback! :) Since you said that you used the ATI study manual and ATI online practice tests, I'm assuming you bought the package? I know the package includes both A and B online assessments. Do you mind telling me if there's a big difference between A and B? Because I'm only planning on getting one of the assessments, that's if there isn't a lot of major differences between the two. -Alyssa

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
Thanks for the feedback! :) Congrats on your score, hopefully I get the same! Haha. I'm trying to prepare myself as much as I can. Also, are you talking about the practice tests that are included in the book by ATI or the online ones?

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
I went online to check if some books about the TEAS are available at the library and fortunately, I found one. I checked the "Nursing School Entrance Exams" by McGraw-Hill yesterday. There are 3 copies of the book by ATI at 3 libraries. Unfortunately, they're all checked out so I'm in the waiting list. Hopefully it'll be available soon so I don't have to buy it and spend extra money. Trying to save up here, haha. Anyway, I don't think I need the download since I already have the book. But if it is a different one by McGraw-Hill, then here is my email: [email protected] Thanks in advance girl! I really appreciate it :). Also, I'm pretty sure you can rent the ATI book. I checked out Chegg and it is available. -Alyssa

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
What?! That's crazy! But good looking out girl. I'll check out the library. You're talking about the manual by ATI right? Also, did you buy anymore helpful books other than the one you bought? I've heard a lot about the Mcgraw-Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exams book. A majority said that also helped them. -Alyssa

TEAS Test V Study Guides?
Hey everyone, I will be taking the TEAS Test V this upcoming May and I was just wondering if those of you who have taken it or on the road to taking the test can recommend any study guides/manuals? My school recommends the TEAS Test V Study Manual from the ATI site. I'm planning on getting the Manual by itself or the package which includes 2 online assessments along with the manual. However, I'm still kind of iffy about the package since it's $88. I'm not sure if the online assessments are worth it or is the manual enough? Also, I heard that there are other useful study guides. McGraw-Hill being one of them. If any of you have any recommendations or comments, please feel free to let me know. Thank you in advance! -Alyssa

Sentara College BSN program questions...
Hey everyone, I'm new here and I just have a couple of questions about the Traditional BSN track program at Sentara College of Health Sciences. I'm currently finishing up my pre-requisites at TCC. I have 6 pre-reqs left and that's including the 3 I'm taking this Fall. I'm applying for Sentara's BSN 2013 program after I'm finished with all of my pre-requisites this upcoming Spring '12 semester. I know that before you start the program, you'll have to complete either the CP or NA course and the 6 online pre-requisites. I already applied for the Care Partner course and I'm taking it next October '12. This girl in my chemistry class today informed me that the online pre-reqs are really challenging and that those pretty much determines your place in the program. I am really scared that I might not get in the 2013 program. Can anyone please give me some clear information about the program and the process of it? How are the online pre-requisites? Do they determine my place in the program? How is the program in general? Please let me know, thanks!
