I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!
Hi Everyone,
I'm 34 years old, a mother of 3 amazing kiddos (13, 9, 8) and a wonderful husband. This was my first semester of college in over 15 years!! It was so nerve-racking going back to school but I was determined to succeed. At mid-term I had a 4.0 and I'm hoping to close out the semester maintaining it!! (Fingers crossed) This semester I took English 101, Intro to Psychology, Biology 101, and Math (as a refresher). I have a full year of pre-reqs to complete before I can apply to the nursing program in 2014. This thread is truly inspirational. It's so nice to know their are others out there going through the same thing I am :) I'd like to ask what courses are you all taking next semester and what has been your biggest struggle?
Everyone here is so inspiring...I too am heading into a new career direction. I have been a formal education science teacher and working in informal education for the last 17. I applied last fall and was accepted into a entry level masters program for this fall...was so excited!!! But...alas God had a different plan...found out I was pregnant in February (I'm a statistical anomaly for IUD users) So alas, I must defer another year to fall 2014. I'll be 41 when I start and I can't wait !!! Congrats to all for their hard work and dedication!![/quote']
Lol. I am statistical anomaly too not because I got pregnant with an IUD but because I was the baby that my mom had with her IUD. I dodged that sucker and latched on. Lol. Us IUD babies are determined. Good luck and congrats on both baby and school.

Yea for wonderful husbands! I am very thankful for mine. I don't know how single parents do it. Bless their hearts! I cannot imagine how tough that would be. My biggest struggle so far has been letting the household chores go more than I usually would. The semesters I took anatomy, chemistry, and physiology, I had to study quite a bit. It's only going to increase in nursing school, so I must learn to be okay with having a messy house sometimes. I've enrolled in micro and lifespan (developmental psych) for the fall semester, but I will find out in June if I have been accepted into the ADN program. If so, I'll drop the BSN prereqs and finish them up afterward. Best wishes on your prereq journey. I absolutely loved biology! It's a great course that will prepare you well for physiology.
I'm 34 with eight kids and just finishing up my first year of the BSN program. I had planned on ADN, but then my hubby's job moved us here where they only offer LPN, or BSN. They do have LPN to ADN but in the long run its longer than the straight BSN so I went for it! Nursing school is such a ride! I have my last pharmacology final EVER tomorrow and I'm too nervous to sleep! Lol
My Word! :) Hats off to you! :)
I am 33 I have four children(13,10,6, and 4) I still have sociology, nutrition,Gen bio, which I am taking in the fall and I also have general chem, micro, A&P I and II left to take. I have been taking courses over a quite of few years. But now since my youngest will be in school full time I can focus on school a little more.
I'm glad to see this thread I get discouraged sometimes thinking I put everything off to long and I'm too old to start again :)...
I'm 31, I start back to school again in August to get the last few pre-reqs under my belt then I will be able to apply for Fall 2014 to the BSN program...I have a full time job and part time job and I've been putting my dream of being a nurse on hold for so many years that when my little sister graduated with her associates degree and starts her bachelors program in the Fall, I thought I can't keep putting this off I have to finish, get my degree and start doing something I love and am passionate about...I have a great support system my family has wanted me to go back for awhile and now I am and I'm super excited to get back into school scene...

I too, have always wanted to pursue nursing but I let too many "other" things distract me (life). I've been thinking lately about "shoulda, coulda, woulda's" but the truth is...everything happens as it should. My (younger) sister inspired me because she didn't let life's distractions get in her way...even though I am older...she lit fire under me!
Doesn't matter when we do it; as long as WE DO IT. Register for classes and keep pushing...those credits add up quickly! Next things you know...you'll be finished!

That is right. Just do it. Just role with the punches in life. Just start. I started in remedial math and took 4 semester's working my way up and finally today I finished college algebra with an A. Just do what you have to do to get your dream accomplished.

Since this thread is so inspiring, I thought I'd share a quote I came across recently, for those moments when we are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, scared or just like we can't do it anymore!
