  1. I'm up for this challenge!! I got a 4.0 last semester!! My fingers are crossed I can maintain it!! I'm taking: English 102 Human development A&P I w/ lab Safety & First Aid (excited about this one cause I'll be CPR certified) Medical Terminology
  2. Hello, I just received 3 letters from my school stating I will receive all of the scholarships I applied for. (Yay!!) The letters stipulate I need to send the college a thank you letter which will be sent to each organization. This is what I have come up with and wanted to see if anyone would proofread it to see if there's any grammatical errors or things I should change. Thank you in advance!! Dear Scholarship Donor, I was both surprised and honored to receive the John Weldon Scholarship. Words cannot truly express my gratitude. I appreciate your confidence in me and willingness to contribute to my future education. I have whole heartedly embraced this opportunity to complete a degree and I am a dedicated student striving to excel. I'm currently enrolled at Clinton Community College majoring in Humanities and Social Science with a minor in Pre-nursing. The pre-requisites courses I am taking are centralized for Clinton's nursing program. The course load is demanding as is my home life. I have been able to successfully balance both, finishing this semester with a 4.0 GPA. Receiving the John Weldon Scholarship has lightened my financial burden; which will allow me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning.Every semester moving forward, I will challenge myself to maintain this level of academic excellence and receiving this scholarship will make obtaining those goals much easier. Your generosity is appreciated and accepted with extreme honor. To me your contribution represents much more than just a monetary gift, it represents a belief in the promise of equal opportunity. By providing resources to students who need and deserve it most, you are helping to ensure that one's economic situation is not a barrier to their artistic and intellectual growth. Moreover, you've shown through your willingness to award excellence that you believe in the power of education and its ability to better both the world and the individual. I humbly thank you for your generosity, Melinda M. Clark
  3. For me, taking one science class per semester seems to work best. I'm not saying it's impossible to accomplish however you'll have to be extremely diligent during your fall semester if you're considering A & P II and chemistry. At my school the committee really evaluate your sciences classes and with the course load of each class being very demanding I chose one science each semester. So far out of all my pre-reqs my science classes have been the most time consuming. I typically would spend an extra 5 hours per week really making sure I understand the concepts not including homework and lab time. Thankfully that extra time allows me to maintain an A in all my sciences :) Just something to consider. Wish you the best!!
  4. I'm taking English 102, Human Development, Safety and First Aid (I'll be CPR certified after this class), Medical Terminology, and A & P :)
  5. The access code you used is now linked to you specifically and will not be able to be used my anyone else. You can still try to sell the book but chances are whoever purchases it will have to also buy another access code which is almost if not as expensive as buying the two together. So it's really not any kind of deal for the purchaser. Hope this helps!!
  6. Fall 2014 At my school we don't need to have our pre-reqs done prior to applying. They make accommodations for a select amount of high school students allowing them to enter a pre-nursing program. If they score at least C's in their sciences they are accepted into the program!! Which in my opinion kind of sucks for a non-traditional student like myself. But it is what it is I guess. It is also interesting to see some of you have the chance to start nursing school in the Spring. We are only allowed to enter into the program in the Fall of each calendar year and if you don't get in you're SOL.
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm 34 years old, a mother of 3 amazing kiddos (13, 9, 8) and a wonderful husband. This was my first semester of college in over 15 years!! It was so nerve-racking going back to school but I was determined to succeed. At mid-term I had a 4.0 and I'm hoping to close out the semester maintaining it!! (Fingers crossed) This semester I took English 101, Intro to Psychology, Biology 101, and Math (as a refresher). I have a full year of pre-reqs to complete before I can apply to the nursing program in 2014. This thread is truly inspirational. It's so nice to know their are others out there going through the same thing I am :) I'd like to ask what courses are you all taking next semester and what has been your biggest struggle?
  8. I'm taking A&P 1 in the fall as well but the class is combined; I have heard from other students on this site that the Kaplain Anatomy Flashcards are really helpful. I just ordered mine they should be here in about a week. My plan is to start reviewing the info over the summer..that would be my recommendation. Hope it helps!! Good Luck!!
  9. Contact the high school that you graduated from!! I had the same issue when I was applying for school this semester - it's been 15 years since I've graduated, all the school nurse had to do was a little digging. Hope this helps
  10. Hello everyone, I'm from upstate NY and applied for the fall semester nursing program, I just received my letter and I didn't get in. I'm completely ok with not entering the nursing program this fall - it will actually allow me to knock out all the "extra" courses so I can concentrate solely on the nursing classes next fall. Here's my question, what can I do to make myself a more competitive candidate? I obviously recognize excellent grades are a top priority but what else?? I currently have a 3.75 GPA and will continue to strive for excellence. What has me completely baffled is that there were several people who I thought would get into our program and didn't - hardworking individuals with straight A's plus all their pre-req's done. I really want to stand out from the crowd next year and make it into the program. Any suggestions??
  11. Hi Everyone, I need some advice. I am a 34 year old women who recently when back to school this semester in hopes of entering the fall nursing program at my local community college. I haven't been to college in over 15 years. I knew the program was competitive but I thought I might have a shot at it. I haven't received confirmation yet but I'm pretty confident I didn't get into the program. The reason I'm convinced I didn't get in is because over 300 individuals applied and there's is only 70 slots plus my advisor told me that I didn't have much in terms of my recent academics to show the decision makers. So far I am maintaining excellent grades, if I had to approximate I'd say a 3.5 GPA. So now I have some decision to make and need an unbiased sense of direction. My options are to continue at this local community college and get all of my pre-req classes out of the way, possibly transfer to a 4-year institution, or apply for the LPN program. There is no guarantee if I stay at this local college I will actually get into the nursing program in the fall. I'm hoping that if I maintain the grades I currently have it would be an easy in but you never know. I've heard the 4 year college is more accepting of individuals who want to enter into the program however it's ridiculously expensive. I have several friends who are in the LPN program and say it's a lot of hard work but it's a really great program. So my question to all of you is what is going to make me a more competitive candidate? Should I stay where I am, transfer, or try the LPN program with more hands on experience? Ultimately I would like to obtain my Bachelors degree in nursing; I just don't want to waste time. I would prefer to start my nursing career before I'm 40!! Any sight you might have would be extremely helpful!!
