Clinical Socks/Stockings Question!

Hi, all!

Okay, my student handbook states that I need:

"Stockings:White for men and women. No textured hose, footies, or tennis socks."

I'm not very familiar with "stockings". Are those the ones that go half-way up your calf? And, by no tennis socks, do they mean, no "regular" socks?

Thanks!

P.S. Any good brands or sites to get them?

"Stockings" could be knee-highs, thigh-highs, or full pantyhose. "Tennis socks" usually refers to the "short" kind that leave your bare ankles exposed. They don't want to see any bare skin peeping out from under your uniform pants. :)

When I wore uniforms, I always wore the Full Support style knee-highs or pantyhose from Hanes. They come in white. Support hose really make a difference by the end of the shift.

Wow, @elkpark, thanks so much for your info! (I can't imagine wearing thigh-highs O_o haha). So, I'll be purchasing some high, white "socks" then! haha Thanks again!

I'm assuming they are talking about compression stockings (at least for the men). I recommend getting ones that go up the knee with compression rating of 17-20.

Schools seem to have a "thing" against showing any ankle skin. I have seen instructors go completely postal over this infraction. Even worse??? Socks with those little dangly pom-pom things at the back that keep them from sliding into the shoe. Wow! That scene will live forever in my memory. We genuinely thought she (instructor) was going to stroke out.

As long as your socks are all white and your bare skin doesn't show when you sit down, you'll be fine!

Sounds like a version of tube socks or compression socks.

Compression socks are nice because after you get used to them they feel like skin.
