Class of 2015

Nursing Students General Students

Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.

With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?

Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.

Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)

I will be starting my 18 month LPN program in September, I am super excited to get started. I am in A&P 1 this summer as well as a math class and a few others. Good times! I screwed myself as a college freshman straight out of high school and now 20 years later it is haunting me. With that GPA factored into my current 4.0 I have zero chance of getting into a ADN or BSN school in this area, so I will become the best LPN I can and hope to prove my worth and then bridge.

It is a longer trip to the BSN, but when you want something, you do what needs to be done to get there.

My college has an academic forgiveness policy that removes, on request, less then desirable grades that are older than 5 years from the students cumulative GPA. I had a similar situation of going back to college after an 11 year hiatus & that policy helped raise my GPA. Perhaps there is something like that you may be able to take advantage of.

There are so many paths to take on a journey & I have no doubt that you will reach your goal. Good luck with your program!! :-)

Hi everyone! I'm super excited!! I start my ASN program in October! No word on when orientation is just yet but I'm still super excited. We can do it!!

Forgot to add I got my CPR for professional rescuers on May 15th. But I need it for my job as well, so double win :)

Hi everyone! I will be starting my ASN in September. We are supposed to be receiving our orientation packets this week, which will have our orientation date and all of the info in it. I am extremely excited to start this journey and feel very blessed to have this opportunity.

I am slated to graduate with my BSN in summer 2015. Finishing up my last non nursing pre req classes and I start all nursing classes in July! good luck everyone, and lets support each other along the way.

Is anyone going to be working during nursing school? If so what are your hours/shift?

I will be working part time as a PCT at the hospital we have clinical's at. It's on the Infants and Children's unit 7p-7:30a 2 nights a week.

I have to ask the other PCTs if they could let me have wed and thurs off since I have clinical's those days following (thursday and fridays) 7a-1p.

You've got some serious metal working 2-12's while in NS. Good for you!

I work my LVN job 1-2 8 hour days a week and work admin a few hours a week. The rest is NS. Whoop whoop!

I think this is so nice to start a forum like that. I am still waiting whether I am in or not. By Jun 14th I should know for the Fall program.

Hello, I will start the ADN program this fall at PHCC in VA. Our orientation isn't until 8/21/13 and classes will start the next day 8/22/13. I find that strange after reading most of your post. Our drug screening and background check is 150.00 and uniforms are 220.00 not sure about anything else. Looking forward to connecting with other nursing students!

Hello class of 2015! I start my program in August and our orientation is a week prior to that. In the meantime we have our packets and plenty to do. Uniforms (navy tops and bottoms) lab coats, steth, pen light, watch, scissors ...... We also have physicals, drug screen, and background, and dental checks along with CPR. Our book lists should be e-mailed over the summer. I am very excited to be starting a new chapter in life! Despite all the challenging horror stories of NS, I can't wait to get started.

I'm going to be starting the nursing portion of a BSN this fall. I'm taking pharmacology this summer, the past year I spent taking A&P, patho, intro to nursing, and a few other prereqs. I can't wait to get my feet wet with some actual nursing! I really enjoyed patho, and pharm is shaping up to be really interesting but a TON of work. I'm so glad I'm taking it by itself this summer!

We haven't been instructed to get any stuff for clinicals yet.

Good luck!! Let us know when you find out!

Hi everyone!!! Congrats to all!!!

I will be starting my ADN this Fall. We have received our health requirement packet, but we dont have our orientation dates as of yet. I can't tell you how excited I am to start this Fall after working my behind off to finish up my pre-reqs last year. It still has not hit me. I cried only a little when I got my acceptance letter. But trust me I am excited, scared and nervous all at the same time.

This is going to be a wonderful journey for us all.

I am going to continue to work my full-time job a hospital night shift 11p-7a. If I feel I cant handle both then I will take a leave of absence from my job to continue school.

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!! CLASS OF 2015!!!! YAH!!!!
