Class of 2015

Published

Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.

With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?

Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.

Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)

Funny thing I noticed. Mine didn't give us a list of other things to buy. Just our books (which will all be on the iPad, no books to carry yay, and our uniforms). So what about all the extra stuff like stethoscopes, b/p cuffs, watches, pen lights, clip boards? I will have to email them.

I'm actually required to get a clipboard with the strong recommendation that it be a storage clipboard.

My program didn't recommend or require a clipboard, but like you mentioned, someone recommended that I buy a storage clipboard for clinical. She basically said that it will help tremendously because when she did her clinicals, she would sometimes need to print things at the hospital/clinical site, or she would take handouts from lab that focused on a particular skill, not to mention if you write anything down about a patient, the storage area is great for confidentiality. I bought one that has little compartments inside the storage area, so I'll probably keep paper clips, a mini stapler, etc. inside because there's also an internal folder to store papers.

I had purchased one of those clipboard a too. I tried using it but, honestly, it was such a pain to carry it around. There was hardly any room to store it somewhere while you are in a patients room. And the size was too cumbersome. You'll realize it when you have 4 or 5 patients on your team like I did my last semester! Good luck!

Thanks for the info about the TB screening. I found a place in Henryetta that does physicals. It's called East Central Oklahoma Family Health Center. Let me know if you want their address and phone number. I really wish our orientation was sooner. I want to know what our schedules are going to be like.

I would like that Jenjer! How much is it? I found one in town that does it for $51 but if the other place is cheaper ill go there lol Henyetta isn't far from me. I do too, I hate waiting! And I want the list of books we need lol

It's taken me a few years to figure out that I wanted to go into nursing and then get the prerequisites squared away, so I'm so excited to finally be starting! After reading so many **omg-nursing-school-is-the-hardest-thing-EVER** posts here on AN I've been using my summer free time to brush up on anatomy, physiology, micro and basic calculations (so paranoid that they're going to spring a math quiz on us on day one, lol). Also trying (trying!) to cement some good habits before I start classes in August: eating well, exercising regularly, and - by far the hardest - forcing myself to get out of bed early every morning, even on weekends.

I know it's going to be a ton of hard work but I'm looking forward to getting started! See you at orientation. :)

Hello Everyone!

I am thrilled to be able to share that I, too, have been accepted for admission into the Nursing program! I will officially begin in September with the orientation held in just four days. So excited!! It's a two year program with the option of a third year to work towards a BSN.

These programs are so competitive... I truly feel blessed to have made it this far, and can't wait to be a part of what's to come. Cheers to us all for the hard work and determination that has put us here today!!! :D

Congratulations, Christy!!!

I just received my acceptance letter on Saturday for the ASN program at Ivy Tech in Indianapolis! Should I take some courses over the summer next year, I will actually graduate in Dec. '14. Since I have already completed my co-requisites ahead of schedule, I think this is very doable for me.

I am a mother of four, ages 24, 22, 14, & 12, and a grandma of two, ages 2 & 4! I have a very supportive husband, who is even more supportive now that he can think about semi-retirement in a few years, lol. I have primarily been a stay-at-home mom, with the exception of a few years in banking.

Initially, my field(s) of interest was Hospice, Palliative Care, or Geriatrics; however, I have realized that my heart is actually in many specialties. As all nurses have said, I will figure it out during clinicals - and I can always change it up every few years if I desire :)

I have been dying of anticipation for orientation and for classes to start, I am just so ready to finally be in that career part of my education. Done with all the pre-req's and beginning learning the nursing end of things not just the science. I'm also really excited to begin clinicals.

I can relate! I think I'm the only one on here that literally just applied and won't hear back till October! However, my grad date would be August 2015 :) I'm so over pre reqs...I busted my butt last semester to pull a 4.0 to help bring up my gpa right before applying to the program. It was rough & now I have 1 semester of pre reqs left (fall) and I'm just ready to be accepted and start nursing classes!!

Just ordered my uniforms and name pin yesterday :) $130.00, and that was with the 10% discount. So excited. I also emailed my nursing program because I noticed they never told us about what supplied for nursing that we need like the stethoscope, scissors, pen light, b/p cuff. She told me it was all included and we will get them at the school. YAY, couple less things I don't have to worry about getting. I will be buying a clipboard though. I will also be getting a printer, I have one I'm kind of eye balling Amazon.com: Epson WorkForce 545 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax, iOS/Tablet/Smartphone/AirPrint Compatible (C11CB88201): Electronics

lots of paper, lots of ink. That's all for now.

MommaTy,

I haven't even considered a new printer until you posted that one- perfect for a nursing student!!
