Class of 2006

Nursing Students General Students

Hey yall!

Just wondering if there are any of us out there still working on pre-reqs - hopeful nursing graduates of 2006?

Roll call! :)

I'm the 26yo mama of two boys (5yrs and 18mos). I work FT right now and am taking my pre-reqs at night. Hoping to get into a BSN program and start my nursing core/clinicals in fall 2004!

Kim - When do your classes begin? How was orientation? Our orientation isn't until July 6th, but we have a "Welcome Tea' on May 21st. Can't wait to go to that. :)

Okay, here's a question for everybody.....

When do your nursing classes begin and how many students are there in your entering class?

We have an all-day orientation on August 26th that is mandatory and then classes start on August 30th. There are about 70 in our class, but I am hoping that some get weeded out early. I like smaller classes!

Orientation was boooooring! But that's probably because I just did it three years ago! LOL! It didn't even last 45 minutes for me because I was already registered. A "welcome tea" sounds formal. Is it?

Thanks, Agent. I'm so sorry to hear about your transcript problems messing up your plans. Are you still planning on taking any classes this summer/fall, or will you just wait until next year? :o

Kim - I'm not thinking it's not too formal. More like a "meet and greet" kind of thing with the other students and faculty. Here in the South, they're pretty big on teas and that sort of thing. Not too formal, but we do get dressed up (church clothes, I call 'em) :chuckle

There are supposed to be 50 people in my class. Summer term begins July 7th with intro to nursing skills and informatics, then full-fledged nursing classes and clinicals begin in August (not sure of the exact date yet).

Angela - no news on the interview front yet (I'm guessing no, but figured I'd ask)! I've still got my fingers crossed for you! :)

nope no interview news yet. still waiting, I'm such a dork, I can see the mailboxes from our window, so as soon as the mailman leaves, I run out to check. :chuckle

LittleCat - I can't believe they don't let you know until June! Some of the ADN programs here are like that, and I can't even imagine having to scramble to get everything done in that short of a time period. Our nursing classes begin in July, but maybe yall's begin later (since the hotify deadline is so late)? Where are you from? I always said I'd love to be an art major... if only I had any talent! :)

I wish our Chem had had a curve (I was hoping for one the whole semester)! :chuckle

They start classes in the summer semester (July), but they're classes I've already taken (english I and general psych) so I don't have to start until August... The only problem is with A&P I and II, I'd like to get those out of the way but they're only available in the fall and winter semesters... so it's going to be tough... :stone

I'm in SE Michigan! The school I'll hopefully get into is a small community college, I actually went there fresh out of high school and got an associates of sciences... I should probably try to get my BSN at the university I'm going to now (I know I'm "wasting credits" :p ), but community college is so much cheaper and they're so much more supportive... (that place is like a high school LOL, everyone knows your name)

I realized art was not going to make for a great profession the past few years when I started doing a lot of murals, photos, paintings etc. on commission... I still do them (actually I'm going today to work on a mural) but I don't want my livelyhood to rest on someone else's whims... I'd rather do it because I love to do it, not for money. Also, I took a class that was more "draw what you feel" rather than "draw that ugly nekkid guy" and I realized that art is not a form of communication for me... If I want to communicate something I'd rather write about it. It was really a revelation for me- kind of like- what am I doing here? LOL

I have a few friends who are nurses and love it... 6 months ago I started working in a group home, with the developmentally disabled, and I really enjoy everything about it... and then I decided that a nurse was something I wanted to be... :)

Okay, here's a question for everybody.....

When do your nursing classes begin and how many students are there in your entering class?

The nursing class at the school I applied to is very small, only 40 students! I think they said they get about 200 applications on average every year... I hope I manage to get in! Classes start summer semester...

Good luck to everyone!

Nothing wrong with that! :) I'm going to a community college as well. I started out going because of the financial aspect, but now that I've been there for a year, I really like it better than the university I got my Bachelors at back in '94! Plus the cc I'm attending has the best nursing program in the area, so even though the hospital I'm working for is going to be paying for my schooling, I'm going to remain at the less expensive cc! I really enjoy it there!

I will probably be taking a&p starting next month.. just need to get some money

I'm looking at possibly completing my degree at DePaul

Hey, whatever works for you! For me, the BSN is actually going to be cheaper because of more scholarship and grant money available at the 4-year school... plus I decided late in my education to be a nursing major, so I had most of the BSN pre-reqs done by the time I decided to apply. :)

Good news on the scholarship front for me - I got an award notification from school again yesterday. Apparently the scholarship that I thought was $1500/year was instead $1500/semester! I'm pretty excited about that!

What kind of degree program are you looking into at Depaul, Agent?

Bump!

So where are all my fellow "class of 2006" folks now and how's school been going for you?

This is my 3rd semester, we're doing maternal-child and med surg II. I also just found out this week that I am going to be doing a critical care externship this summer. Can't wait! :)

Hey All! I *hopefully* will be done May, 2006. It sounds so much better when I say next year. ;)

Pre-reqs are done. I just have 1 more gen ed class and the rest are nursing courses. I finished my second quarter of clinicals this week! Next quarter I have my OB & Psych courses, Pathophysiology and Issues & Trends in Nursing.

I am 34 and have 3 boys.

Specializes in Critical Care / Psychiatry.

I finish May 2006! :)

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Another classmate checkin' in. Can't wait till we're done!

Really liked when January 2005 came around. Was then able to tell the world "I'll be done next year!"

Both prereq's I needed (have two other degrees which supplied all the others) were done last year.
