what class kicked your backside?

anything?Im not expecting a cakewalk by ANY means...but hopefully with serious studying and focus I can pull through

What was the class that was the most challeging/difficult for you?

Theory of Nursing...

Ugh. So boring, so tedious...

And so useless.

micro and not liking lab in chem so much either.

Uggghhh Nurselovejoy I completely agree. I actually found teh lecture stuff for chem pretty easy but I hated the labs yuck yuck..it was teh only time i actually stayed the full time in the lab and didn't get out early

A&P...but only A&P I, and not A&P II.

A&P 1. Especially the end. Due to her strict schedule, we only had 1 week at the end for THREE exams (two lecture, one lab). If I hadn't read ahead and doubled up on my readings and prepared for this, I would have sacrificed my grade. It was VERY stressful though.

She also liked to "overlap" info. Meaning before you took one exam you would move on to other chapters for the next exam thus you had to make sure to retain double the info in an already info-dumpy class. I've never had that happen before.:crying2:

So far A&P ll...almost done. I got accepted into University of Hawaii, Maui for Spring! So excited

I have Chemistry now which may be the death of me...I don't understand anything. That said, I had Micro this summer (15 weeks condensed into 10 weeks); 1/2 the class dropped. There was a woman who was a veterinarian in the class (had her PhD) and was taking it for some extra certification and only got a B! The woman next to me had a BS in Biology and said it was a horrible class, etc. The amount of work we had to complete was insane and the exams had nothing to do with the lectures!

By the way, I work in a hospital as a CNA and every nurse I've spoken to said they never use Chemistry or Micro in their work...oh well, I think the prereq's are just for eliminating people who want to be a nurse but don't really know what's involved.

I am taking chemistry right now and surprisingly..its easy. But then again, I am also going to take Chemistry II next semester which I have heard is 22 chapters in 3.5 months. YIKES. I think it is orgo chemistry too...

So far, biology seems to be the "hard" class but I can't really tell yet because I think I just aced my first bio exam.

Everyone keeps saying that A&P, Pharm, and Microbiology is hard. I have to take those in my second year. Am I doomed?

Yes, you are doomed.

OK, not really.

Personally, I didn't think any of those classes were extraordinarily difficult. All of them were fairly straight forward but they all required a lot of memorization and consistent diligence in order to be prepared for labs and exams. I suppose it's a matter of what one defines as "hard." To me, "hard" is something conceptually challenging with open-ended problems. Notable examples include modern physics (quantum mechanics, relativity, etc), thermodynamics, and physical chemistry.

Classes like A&P, pharm, & micro are "hard" only in the volume of material which must be retained. With sufficient time invested in reading and studying, they become rather simple.

Something screwy with the AN database today...

Ended up with repeat posts :-(

No.

If you're finding bio and chem to be easy, you're on the right track. I found them easy as well. A&P 1 was an info dump, and I had a horrible teacher and taught myself the whole course, but I still got that A. Between the three of them A&P 2, and so far Micro, are easier. Still lots of info though. You simply get used to the amount/pace. Other non-science classes after those will have you going "that's it?". LOL I have an ethics class right now along with my Micro, and it's not even half the work required.

I have to say, not as a nursing student yet, but as a Biology Major, the hardest course was Computer science. I had to take it for my degree, and died! More orientated towards nursing, Anatomy and Physiology. I had little knowledge of the human body before I took them. Microbiology and organic chemistry was the easiest and my favorite.
