It was pharm for me.. For some reason I just couldn't memorize anything.. If it was taught with the disease like COPD, DM, etc I understood it and how it worked.. I am the type of person that needs to know the what, where, when , why and how.. Not just the what... All the other classes I loved, except algebra.. But it was pharm that kicked my butt but I made it through :)

i have heard it was crazy hard

I haven't had any that have been extremely challenging yet. I am almost done with my pre-reqs.. have A&P II, biology, nutrition, chemistry, and statistics left. I had always heard microbiology was tough but I didn't think it was too bad.. finished the class up with a 94%! Chemistry is probably going to kick my butt...

Five years ago I took general chemistry 1 & 2 as prereqs for chiropractic school (this was before I realized that nursing was a better career path for me). That was not so bad, and I did well. Thankfully I can still use those credits towards nursing prereqs, but I did start Organic Chemistry I the summer after, and I had such a panic attack after 2 weeks of it that I withdrew  ... I had a REALLY bad professor as well, nothing I normally do to do well was working in that class, it was hopeless. Withdrawing was the best thing I did, no regrets.

Been so traumatized by that experience that any nursing school even hinting at organic chem as a prereq I have crossed off the list, FAST! :D

University Chemistry (chem. for science majors) was the hardest set of classes (2 of them) that I've ever taken. They weren't prereqs for nursing. I have another degree, but nonetheless they weren't easy.

General chemistry (two semesters) for science majors at the university was extremely challenging. Thankfully, I was about to complete general chemistry at the community college with 100%+.

As nearly everyone else has said, Gen Chem 1 and 2 was the most difficult for me. There were so many times when I cried just because I've never experienced so much frustration for a class. Also, I felt like there were so many things that were not applicable to nursing, so why would I need to know it? I definitely think that Chemistry is an unnecessary pre-req for the nursing program and love hearing when schools don't require it.

My question: when will crystal lattice structures ever apply to nursing???? ;)

Specializes in LDRP.

Definitely university level General and Organic Chemistry (for science majors)!!!

Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition, Psych classes, no problem. But CHEM is a whole different story... It's been nice to be done with chem for a while, but we're starting our fluid and electrolytes section in nursing fundamentals this coming week - exciting stuff! :uhoh3::nuke:

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

Actually I would have to say microbiologyw as my least favorite. Pathophysiology definately kicked my butt though and I loved it and learned a ton in it. It also made me confident in my decision to do nursing because I loved teh subject matter and the challenge of our professor for it.

I would say Microbiology, A&P 1 and 2. I did well, but the teachers I had made thier classes very time consuming. It wasnt as much that I couldnt understand the material, but too have a lot to learn in a short time.

Pharmacology....death by power point and the teacher was new AND didn't write any of the exams!
