Clarification On A Requirement For Taking NCLEX in Texas

Published

Hello everyone.

I am a U.S. citizen and I am currently taking up nursing in the Philippines. I will be graduating in April 2013.

I went to the website for the Texas BON and I read their requirements. However, it is still unclear to me whether I have to take the local board here in the Philippines before having to take the NCLEX in Texas.

I have no problem with taking the local board here in the Philippines, it's just I don't want to waste time studying for the local board when I could be studying for the NCLEX instead. And the local board is in July 2013.

Please let me know specifically and simply, if I have to take the local board for the Texas NCLEX and give me your thoughts on how I should handle this situation.

Thanks in advance for your help, input, and advise.

Have a blessed day.

Thank you for your inquiry.

If Phillipine require a licence before practice as nurse then you have to take it. I want to be clear here you do need to be a nurse before attempting to apply to board of nursing. Others countries such French speaking countries in Europe you do not need a licence exam once you graduate from nursing school that is.

Next before contacting the board you do need to evaluate your credentials meaning you need to contact either CGFSN.ORG or ERES.com. These agencies will help you evaluate your level of education just remember it not free. You will have to pay fee here to start your file and you have to get your school fill out one form for you and your school have to send all of that directley to the agency.

If these agencies conclude that your level education is comparable to LVN, RN then they have to send report to the board of nursing.

remember even though you were born here , you went to high school here if you were not taught in english in phillipine you have to take the english proficiency test. Examination Applications

Once the board received your application , your background information, your evaluation report, your english score(only if apply to you) your jurisprudence score then you will be eligible to sit for NCLEX then you will have to pay for Registering your test to pearsonvue.

Good luck, wish you the best. I come from Foreigner country and now i hold a Master in nursing. For any help contact me

Okay, thank you so much.

Yes, it's easy....I know I have several USC batchmates that took the passed the local PH exam....just don't check off the box asking about citizenship...I don't know if it's a over-sight or the examiner dosn't care. I also know that some simply checked off they were PH citizens (even tho' they are USC or have dual-C), it's all paperwork and none have been called on it.

I have mentioned this a few times in my other posts.

Hello,

I recently applied for Texas NCLEX RN, I graduated in the Philippines last 2011. I didn't take the NLE. After i graduated i went straight here to the USA, though i hard time applying for the NCLEX in Cali, i decided to take it in Texas instead. Chose ERES for my evaluation didn't pass the form 102 to them coz i don't have a license in the Philippines. After a month i got my att and will be taking my nclex next week!!

Do you have to take the refresher course? I'm thinking about applying in Tx but worried about the refresher course. I just graduated last April.

I saw a post here that you need to take the refresher course if you graduated 4 yrs ago without any nursing practice. I graduated 2011 which makes it 2 yrs.. so i don't tink i need to get the refresher course... hopefully :oldman:

How long did you process your application in Texas?

How much did you pay for the Eres?

Hi, I've passed the local NLE in the PI last July 2012 and when I tried to apply for NCLEX here in CA, they said that theories and clinicals should be completed in the same semester, so I am planning to apply for TX instead. May I know the step by step process you did to be eligible to take NCLEX in TX? And did they require you to take the English proficiency test?

I am unofficially eligible to take the exam based on my application status posted on TX bon website. I already completed the requirements. All I have to do is register to pearson vue and pay the fee in order for me to get my ATT. However, I haven't done it because I'm still not prepared. Just read the TX BON website and follow the steps for international graduates. Basically the requirements are CGFNS, Fingerprint, Nsg jurisprudence, and Registered to Pearsonvue. You do not have to take an english proficiency exam such as TOEFL or IELTS as long as your nursing program was conducted in english. I am not required since mine was. But I believe you don't need it too since I'm also a graduate from the Philippines. Hope this helps. Good luck! :)
