If anyone has attended or does attend New York City College of Technology's nursing program, can you give me any insight as to how long of a waiting list there is to get into the program? Muchas gracias.

I guess they don't allow to repeat class unless it's below C .. You can only take upper level class do replace it higher grade and I guess only one class u can do that

Hello CanteloupeRN, I have a question to ask, but I have to accept you as a friend first in order to PM you. So i will do that.

I got accepted for the fall semester of 2012 with a kaplan score of 73 and a Gpa of 3.9 in the four required courses. My overall Gpa is 3.9. Good luck!

How was the kaplan exam is it hard , and what's the subjects you were tested on. And also how was the mat1275.i'm very nervous i want to know how to prepare for it thanks. My gpa 3.9 i just need to take mat1275 by the way i took hessi exam two times at bmcc and i failed because the passing score is 75.

As a transfer, What classes will make up my Gpa? at LIU Brooklyn i took all of the nursing pre reqs but couldnt get into the program, so im looking else where.

MAT 1275 was a breeze after I purchased Algebra Survival Guide by Rappaport for like $16 off ebay. It has pretty much everything you need on how to set up the problems for that class. I didnt bother buying the textbook, although you can get it from the library and make copies for extra practice questions. I recommend you definitely read the Word Problems and Ration sections thoroughly as the word problems can be a doozy, and the Ratio section will HELP YOU PASS NUR 1010 (med math.) Dopwell (med math prof) is hilarious but her teaching method is much debated. Personally I didnt listen to her at all aside from her jokes because everything you need to know about setting problems up in med math would have been learned in this Ratios section.

The Nursing dept accepts students based on their 4 key pre-clinical courses GPA (NOT THE CUMULATIVE GPA on your transcript.) As a transfer student your overall NYCCT GPA is fresh and starts at 4.0 (but shows up as a blank or 0.) Your credits show up on your transcript as TCR, instead of the actual grades, so only the classes you take at NYCCT will make up your GPA. Its unfortunate because I was a student for only 1 sem before I got in the program, and my GPA has suffered a severe blow from the nursing classes (theyre about 4-6 credits each.) If I would have taken more classes there, the GPA wouldnt have been so affected but alas, you take what you get, right? I recommend taking a bunch of classes if you have time to cushion the drop in your gpa, im not exaggerating when I say about 80% of my class dont get better than a 79 on the exams.

For example, I had 41 transfer credits (all i really needed were the Nursing courses and med math and I was set.) I took summer statistics and sociology to knock out the BSN courses since I had time. I went in with a 3.6 cumulative GPA ( 3.8 pre-clinical key courses GPA) and now after the first half is done, i'm sitting on a 2.9 cumulatve GPA.

Hope that cleared things up. I would also recommend LOTS of positive energy each time you feel down. I like to use Dory (from Finding Nemo) because she "just keeps swimming."

Thanks for the info i actually had a meeting with an advisor today and she told me i am on the right track.

for ENG 101 I had an b but ENG 201 i had a B+ so they are going to use that grade. PSY 100 i had a B but now im taking child PSY and i am trying to get an A so that can substitute the PSY 100 course. So all i need is anatomy & p I and mat 1275 to get into the program. so i have to make sure my gpa is over a 3.4

They only let you substitute one class.
