City Tech nursing program

U.S.A. New York

If anyone has attended or does attend New York City College of Technology's nursing program, can you give me any insight as to how long of a waiting list there is to get into the program? Muchas gracias.

Hi guys!

I am currently a student at BMCC. I'm finishing up my pre reqs but don't plan on applying to the bmcc program. It seems to be literally impossible to get in. I am looking into other schools and was wondering about City Tech. I took the nursing math required for BMCC which was MAT104, I don't know if that would apply to city tech or if I have to take their required math, either way its fine. I plan on taking A&P next fall and microbiology next spring. Do you guys know how long the waiting list is? and if i get good grades in psychology 101, english 101 & 102, A&P, and microbiology, will I be able to get in???? I plan on taking some other general health classes in case I want to apply somewhere else but I'm really looking into City Tech. I would just really like to know if I even have a chance with those classes I mentioned, or if I need to take anything else??????? I'm scared!!!!! bmcc nursing program is ridiculous I need another option!!!!!! let me know if u guys have any advice please!!!!!!!!

thanks

Your best bet is to call the nursing dept. and make an appointment so one of the faculty members can take a look at your transcript. If I remember correctly A&P2 and Microbiology are NOT prerequisites. They are requirements for graduation but you don't need them to apply to the program. If you do get accepted you will need to take them in the future though.

What you do need to take BEFORE applying is Bio 101, A&P1, English Composition 1,Psychology and Math 101 and 275. Also you will have to take the Kaplan exam (the student manual talks about NLN, but they no longer use it).

Focus on those classes and try to get As and I'm pretty sure you will get in. That's what I did.

When i started there was no such thing as a waiting list. if your GPA was not good enough they simply advised you to retake some classes to improve it and then apply again. But keep in mind that was a couple of years ago and I've heard the admission process is more competitive now.

Good luck!!!:)

I really wish that i could of taken summer course because now i cant apply for the program until spring 2012... However in the mean time im gonna try to get A's. Now if i try to repeat a class lets say for example psy I got a B and i want to get a A. Do you think the nursing dept will look at that grade or will it be a waste?

Congrats!!!! I just graduated and Im going back to City Tech for my BSN. Some of the professors who worked there for decades are retiring so the program is changing fast.

I wish you the best of luck!! The next 2 years will be very exciting and challenging but remember, it will be worth it! :heartbeat:heartbeat

Hi everyone!

I'm currently attending the nursing program at BMCC.After graduation I want to enroll into a BSN program right away.I'm thinking about citytech. Do you know if you can apply before you have the RN license and get it later before the program starts?Do you have to take any prerequisites there or you can apply right away for the program?

Thank you very much!

This is one of the cuny schools that I am looking into. I wish you all the best!!!

Yes, you can apply before you have your license but you can only take the classes that do not require clinicals (a couple nursing classes in the bachelors program are theory only, no clinicals. You can take those right after you graduate). You are only allowed to progress in the program and take the other nursing classes once you have your license.

hi

I'm a pre-nursing student at citytech. I have finished with all my pre-requisites this summer and i am applying to the program this fall.

My overall GPA is 3.8 but my GPA for pre-requisite is 7.1 because of a B in Math 1275. Is there anything i can do to raise my GPA. I think i need a higher GPA to get in.

I am also taking the Kaplan pre-entrance exam this November and haven't started the preparation yet. Can you tell me how you prepared for the exam, what books, review guides did you use? and how difficult is the test so i start preparing ASAP.

Thank you
