City Tech nursing program

U.S.A. New York

If anyone has attended or does attend New York City College of Technology's nursing program, can you give me any insight as to how long of a waiting list there is to get into the program? Muchas gracias.

when are you taking AP 1 and Mat 1275. Are you taking it now or in the summer. Make sure you try to get A's in any other non nursing course. The nursing courses can dramatically lower your GPA. Even though getting A's in nursing courses is not impossible it is definitely not the norm nor average grade. To my knowledge not one person left the nursing program with their original GPA. You want to maintain your GPA for other reasons such as other BSN programs and externships. My GPA is still over 3.0+ but its under 3.5 and I was rejected for externship based on this.

I'm going to take the courses in the fall, I am kinda considering doing both summer sessions but i just want to make sure that i get the best grades as possible. I'm sorry that they rejected you for externships. But happy that maintaining a gpa of 3.0 + Im really really thinking because i don't want to rush things by taking summer classes and messing up my grades, and money.

Taking courses in the summer is not a bad thing but, the teacher you have is a major factor. Look up the teacher on rate my professor. This website have been my bible regarding how I select my teachers.

I also see you are taking AP1/Mat 1275 in the fall which means if you apply to the nursing program for admission in Spring 2012 and get accepted you will be taking AP2 in 1st semester. This is doable but, not the best idea. If you make it without failing you will take microbiology in 2nd semester. Again doable but, not the best idea. All of us who did it this way was under tremendous stress. The nursing courses alone are a heavy load. If you do it this way I hope you don't have a demanding job. Some people acclimate themselves to the workload without a hitch. Many have frequent issues because they are not use to the workload. All of this depends on you, your level of motivation, and the time you have to study. You will discover your class and clinical schedule are not the ony times you must be in school. Sometimes you have to complete or attend things the faculty arranged at the last minute. Your schedule is subject to change. Example. My class is suppose to be from 8:30 to 11AM. 1st day of class the teacher change it to 7AM for the rest of the semester. You have to be flexible and adaptive. Nursing school test your mettle. I flow with the craziness because the nursing profession is always evolving. Nursingschool is teaching me how to be flexible and make the situation beneficial for me.

Thanks a lot for the information, my job flexible but school will come first, I'm willing to do what ever it takes to become an rn so if i have to quit my job i will definitely do that. I am considering taking summer courses, but if i cant i'll do the classes in the fall and take a&p 2 with the nursing courses. I know i have to bust my butt but it will pay off in the long run. :lol2:

How are classes going for you guys this semester

It is "going." Everything is OK. Only five more weeks.

Hello All. I just transferred to city tech this semester (spring2011) and I'm takin 2 of the 4 pre-reqs to get into the nursing program. My grades are: Psy101 A...A&P B+....English 2 and Math 1275(I'm takin these 2 classes now and so far I'm gettin excellent grades so I'm confident I will get an A). The thing is I just took the Nursing entrance test which was by Kaplan (they nolonger give the NLN) and I barely passed...I gota 67 on it. With that being said, what do you think my chances are in gettin into the nursing program for next semester??? Will the nursing entrance test hinder me from gettin in??? I'm sooo nervouse!!! Thanks in advannce!

Hello all! I'm taking microbiology at City Tech this summer. Has anyone taking Microbiology previously during the summer session? It is so short! I'm concerned about not being able to retain the information in such a short period of time...any information would be much appreciated!

I took Microbiology in the summer. Yes, it's very fast paced, at the end of every week you will have an exam.

To be honest, summer classes are not the best way to retain any information. It's an incredible amount of material in a very short period of time so it's all about cramming. But desperate times call for desperate measures. It was either take it i the summer and not retain anything or take it with the nursing classes and be overwhelmed. I chose to just get it out of the way as fast as I could. I think i still managed to get a B.

I don't think Microbiology is that relevant to the nursing course though. It's not like A&P. You need A&P for the rest of your life as a RN so you better actually retain everything. Micro not so much imo, so i just focsed on finishing it because it was required.

You will be okay!! :)

Thank you for your response! I am just trying to get it DONE you like you said :) so ultimately I think taking it in the summer might be the way to go! Thanks again for the info!

I made a decision to wait an extra semester to apply for the nursing program. since i work i'm going to finish all my pre nursing courses before i apply to the program which will be a& p I and mat 1275 for fall then spring 2012 I am going to complete a&p II and micro bio then apply to the program. I took everything you guys said into consideration. I do believe that its better to wait then to be overloaded with courses. The only thing that will be upsetting is that I have to wait a year till i get into the nursing program. I am so excited to get in. But i do believe that it is better to be safe then sorry. I don't want to fail out of the program or struggle to get all my work done.
