City Tech nursing program

Published

If anyone has attended or does attend New York City College of Technology's nursing program, can you give me any insight as to how long of a waiting list there is to get into the program? Muchas gracias.

they will substitute one class for its counterpart to help boost your gpa. example I received a B- in AP 1 and A- in AP2 they will substitute the grade..

Hi

I got a B in Math 1275 and A's in rest of the pre-requisites. Additionally, i took A&P2 this summer and got an A. My question is, will they substitute my Math 1275 grade with 1375, if i take it, or any other pre-requisite i have taken. Besides 1275, I haven't taken any other math course yet.

Thank you.

Congratulations..:yeah:

what was your GPA and kaplan test score?. How did you prepare for the exam?. I ordered the review book "review guide for rn pre-entrance exam 3rd edition" recommended by NLN, since exam is not offered by NLN anymore should i buy a Kaplan review guide. Thank you and congratulations again, i hope you do well through the program.

Hey dingdong,

I think you can just retake Math 1275. You will probably get an A the second time around since you already took the class, as opposed to Math 1375 which can be harder. I don't think financial aid would pay for the class if you retake it, though.

I took the entrance exam a few years ago while it was still NLN and it was pretty basic, kind of like SAT type of test. It covered english, math and science. The old NLN-prep book had some good practice questions, but you should go to the office and ask somebody just to make sure. It wasn't an extremely hard test, though. Like I said, that was a few years ago and I don't know if they changed it now.

Good luck!! :nurse:

I'm scheduled to take the kaplan entrance exam at city tech. I bought the kaplan study guide which I have been studying for but feel like there are things in the book that won't be on the test such as plants, atoms, genomes, etc. If anyone has taken this exam it would be greatly appreciated if you can give some advice on how to study. I've been searching online and there isn't a lot of information available for th is exam. I'm afraid I might spend time on studying something I don't need to such as plant physiology or chemistry which isn't a req for the associates program. When I signed up for the exam I was given a paper which gives the breakdown of the test but when I got the study guide out threw me off with all the extra information. I just want to be prepared for what's to come. Thank you in advance.

for those who are matriculated nursing students... how is the workload for 2nd semester? I'm currently taking McGuinn, bless her soul she does a lot for us. Any insights on how to get through the double clinical classes?

I just graduated but, the advice will forever remain the same. Some people are fast learners and can retain a lot so they can remember and understand concepts on short notice. for example acid base balances. Some people take a little longer to digest and apply what they are learning. My advice to you do everything early and review repeatedly so when the time comes for the tests you will feel prepared and less stressed. That is better said than done but, if you are not in the first group of learners then you take the chance of failing. Once you get behind it is hard to catch up. look at videos do practice questions. I waited to last minute minute to do everything and I still received passing grades. I would go days without touching my books or starting assignements. I always stated reading and studying on week before my test. Then I would stress because I had to study for a test and complete assignments. Imagine if I opened my books everyday instead of watching tv, surfing the internet, etc. Do it the best way which is set goals for all assignments and stick to it. Don't allow to much flexiblity with the goals you set such as if you allow 3 hours on a particular day and decide to make it up on another day. DON'T DO THAT unless an emergency happened and you had no choice. You want your GPA to stay high because to get certain grades wil not be as easy as you thought. You wouldn't believe how many people jump for joy just for a "C". The majority of the class. If you need any other advice PM me.

Thanks, ive been reading your posts and theyre very helpful. Do you find most students take the 2 nursing classes per semester or do they split it? Regardless of whether or not I'm a fast learner or a slow learner, its still that fear of the unexpected that worries me. I know some people are splitting the nursing courses because they need to take micro, but ive already taken micro

Don't split unless you have children and working simultaneously. If you do work drop the job to minimum hours (one day. LOL)and take a student loan to cover your expenses. I don't care how much the loan is because the end result is you have your degree and nursing provide you with viable income once you can get a job. I have a child but I wasn't working. Some people in 4th semester now got scared and split their course and regretted it when they saw us walking down the aisle one semster ahead. As for me I, I took micro with both classes and passed. I didn't split anything and I went in and got out on time. The program and some people make things harder than what it suppose to be but, you will find that out on your own. Pace yourself. Study when you are suppose to study and the program won't seem so hard. Get a good study partner and be like sisters and/or brother. Try to hook up with someone who who is smart just like you so if a concept is fuzzy one of you will understand and explain it to the other. Read then split up the subject. on downtime or the phone talk it out and act it out if you have to. Me and my study buddy would study on the phone together until 3am sometimes. Talk it out talk it out talk it out to your family whomever. Line up dolls and give them a lesson about hyponatremia and hyperkalemia act like you are the teacher. Stuff sticks this way then the application part on the test won't seem like Greek because you know the basics. Look at videos like ed4nurses. extremely helpful in 2nd semester. always do practice questions at least three days before the exam to test your knowledge.

Was the acceptance letter you received from CityTech in a thin envelope or a thick one. I did well on the Kaplan (76) and my pre-req GPA is 3.2. My GPA is a not good, but a nursing professor said for the last two semesters the GPA cutoff has been about a 3.2, so I'm hopeful. Please advise about the acceptance letter.

How did you do? I took it on Nov. 9th and passed. My pre-req GPA is within range, but not great. Just waiting to see if I get accepted.

Hi guys! Did anyone of you who took the Kaplan test this February get the scores yet? How long does it usually take to get results?

!!!!!!!!!! I got a results! Finally! And I passed the test! ))) Good luck to everybody!
