  1. As a teenager I was always extremely interested in reproductive health. So I felt like I would naturally end up in that area. But overtime , I got very discouraged throughout college and I think I kind of lost sight in why I wanted to become a nurse. But that's makes a lot of sense. I'm just excited to start the program so that I can actually be exposed to different specialities and setting. Doing some research and watching videos definitely can help. I'll start doing that.
  2. Thank you so much Futurenurse0424. It really helps to hear encouraging words from people in the field (or those like you and I who are on thier journey into nursing) I still feel excited to start nursing school, which I'm happy about lol.. but I'm trying to work through my feelings of my current cna job in the hospital. Hopefully things come together with time. And good luck to you in your program!!
  3. Hello everyone, I'm 26 years old and finally have been in a place to apply to nursing school.it has been a longgg dream of mine to become a nurse. I was accepted into an ABSN program and will begin the program in a few months. I'm extremely excited about returning to school for nursing and even got a hospital job working as a CNA on a meg/surg floor to help prepare myself for working in a healthcare setting. However, I've only had the job for 2 months and I can't say I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm still learning, so a part of it may be nerves from not being fully comfortable in my skills. But in general, I don't think Im liking the hospital setting. It's part time, and I am not "excited" to go to work. Im noticing that I don't find myself interested in the med/surg floor, which makes me more concerned bc as an aspiring nurse, I feel as though I should be in my happy place, being exposed to so many different types of patients and conditions. But I'm not. Many of my friends and loved ones know how much I want to be a nurse and happily ask me how I'm liking my new job, but I find myself hesitating and saying... it's fine... and I bring myself to say I like it. Honestly, ive thought about quitting a few times, or atleast being per diem to give it a shot while I'm in school. It's just frustrating because I've wanted this for so long, and to get a hospital job only to feel ...meh.. is very disappointing. I'm also working another job along with the CNA job to save money for school, which is also taking a toll because I'm extremely tired from working so many hours (no days off). im just looking for some insight from nurses and/or students who can give me some words of wisdom. I haven't started nursing school and I know I will be exposed to different settings outside of the hospital( which I would be excited for).. so I don't want to stress and think too deeply into things before I even start. This situation just makes me nervous as to whether or not I really want to be a nurse. That was hard for me to say. Please help!
  4. To everyone who's already been interviewed/accepted, did you get more insight on the timeline of the program? Im wondering about clinicals. From my understanding, clinicals start "right away" and we would have to get a background check/drug screening beforehand.. does anyone know when this will be done? would it be done DURING the semester in January, or is a requirement before starting the program? I plan on going away for the month of December and would have to cancel my plans if there are requirements that need to be met before January
  5. Hey everyone! I'm also applying to the 2017 MDE/DNP cycle. I've been following the thread for a little while now and I'm finally joining the convo lol. Time is definitely winding down good luck everyone
  6. Thanks! Definitely will. And it is October 31st.. I had a choice between the 31st and the 10th. Since there will be a math exam I chose the 31st to give myself time to study.
  7. Does anyone mind sharing how they plan to pay for the bachelors portion of the program? I know u can't get graduate aide since it's a Bsn. I'm maxed out on all my undergrad loans and I need to figure out how I'd pay for this program if I get in
  8. I just recieved the email for an interview today. Ironically, I called admissions yesterday to ask about the status of my app, and they told me it was in review. Not sure how long it has been in review but I applied sept 13th. So I'm guessing a week maybe
  9. Hey everyone! I've been following this thread for a few months now. Finally took the time to log on and join the convo lol. Also applied for Pleasantville spring 2017! I submitted my app on sept 13th. As of now, my app status says in review. Very anxious about the wait
  10. I was just trying to figure this question out for myself! so does this mean that the "science" prerequisites such as Bio, chem, anatomy, micro etc are considered NON-SCIENCE as well? I tranfered from a prenursing major to a biology major and my new school refused to accept my nursing prereqs as actual biology requirements. I was really shocked to hear that because I didnt think they were any different from bio prereqs.
  11. because of my low grades (2.6 gpa) I just transferred to another college as a biology major. It will take me 2 more years to graduate with my Bachelors so im mapping out my plan for graduate school. Initially, my long term goal was to apply to an accelerated BS/MSN program once i graduate with my bio degree. But I started researching PA programs and the more that I research, the more i become interested! There is no doubt that I want to become a healthcare provider, but Im torn between these two careers. in FALL 2013, im considering applying a number of nursing programs AND a number of pa programs. I have EVERY intention on improving my grades in the next two years, but im afraid my 1st 3 years of college will hurt me in the application process. This makes me want to apply to ALOT of schools so tht I have a better chance of getting accepted somewhere. anyhoo, HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF APPLYING TO NURSING AND PA PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME? AND HOW MANY SCHOOLS HAVE YOU GUYS APPLIED TO? I WAS THINKING 5 NURSING AND 5 PA.?
  12. Very long story short, I attended LIU brooklyn for the past 3 years and cant make it into the program without wasting a crap load of money on class retakes only to get in "eventually" and spend a crap load more on another 2 years tuition. So im looking into starting the ADN program in City Tech for Spring 2013. I have all of the pre reqs they require except the math 1275. Anatomy-B Physiology-B Psych-B English-A Math-will take in Fall Im extremely concerned because I feel like this is my last shot and i hear that ppl are attaining 3.5-3.6 gpa's in these four classes and GETTING REJECTED. Does anyone attend city tech and have some sort of advice or experience they can share? Im so desperate that I will consider retaking a class ive already spent THOUSANDS of dollars for at LIU just so i have a better chance. Im so worried
  13. As a transfer, What classes will make up my Gpa? at LIU Brooklyn i took all of the nursing pre reqs but couldnt get into the program, so im looking else where.
  14. Hello everyone =) I am currently an undergrad student majoring in Psychology. I entered college as a Nursing major and completed all of the preqs required to enter the nursing program. However, due to a rough start in college, i couldnt bring my GPA to the 2.75 required. Ive always had an interest in psychology as well, so I switched my major in hopes of improving my GPA so that I can apply for ABSN programs after obtaining my BA. Ultimately, my interest lies in Non-Profit Organizations. I have a strong interest in the Social Work aspect of Maternal/Infant Services as well as the Nursing Aspect. I definetly want a MASTERS degree, but I want to do BOTH. I would love to be involved in mutiple aspects within this area of healthcare. Ive heard that Social Work can be a very Flexible career. And considering my interests, I fel like a social work degree can complement my nursing degree. My goal is to open my own Non-Profit Org. Has anyone obtained two masters degrees? One in Nursing and additional masters in another field? Or has heard of anyone who has done so???
  15. And to answer ur question, yes, I'm willing to bust my butttt now. I'm trying to take summer classes to make up for the lost time I've created by all the repeating. And I was researching and came to the conclusion that doing an ADN Program after my BA could be one of my best bets... DO U KNOW HOW LONG IT COULD TAKE FOR ME TO COMPLETE AN ADN PROGRAM? given the fact that I'm done with the pre reqs needed?
