Hey everyone! Has anyone applied to the City of Hope New Graduate program? I applied a few days ago and will post on here if I hear anything. Best of luck to those that applied!
Anyhow, sorry--I'm just feeling frustrated. Sometimes I wonder why I left my previous career in the first place. I'm trying trying trying to remember that I did it for patients and patient care ...
Except we are hungry dogs on a leash. They are just taking advantage of that. Instead of these hospitals treating us with respect and being professional, they are manipulating us... because they can. Because we all the need a job, and they can dangle the carrot in front of us. It's sad, but until the economy picks up, that's the way it's probably going to be- in California anyway.
Same here! Nursing was a second career. Maybe I should have looked more thoroughly into the near future of the profession before taking the plunge. Whenever I interact with the patients, I'm reminded why I had a change of heart. But I haven't worked with a patient for almost 4 months so the extrinsic motivation is definitely waning.
Okay, so I called this a.m. to ask what was going on and she made an interview appt on the spot for next Monday, with no option for a phone interview. She did ask me to bring a TB test and proof of a physical exam. I am getting my TB test tomorrow, meaning I won't get results until Monday, which is when my interview is for. I have to set the physical exam appt ASAP as well.
She told me that they are trying to wrap things up next Wednesday.
All I have to say is thank God I have frequent flyer miles!
Yes, I interviewed today. Questions asked are mainly to find out if you know how to use a computer no clinical Q's. And a few tell me a time you taught someone how to use a computer. Of course they asked why do you want to work for COH. Also, I found out they are hiring 58 people for this position!!! wow! And this last New Grad program they hired in only 15 new grads, so while the 58 will be priority consideration (possibly w/ other internal candidates: cna's, friends of nurses ect.) it is still no guarantee. However, it is a great way to get our feet in their door. Good luck to those interviewing!

Thank you so much for this info! Did you get a chance to ask what would make you stand out as a candidate for the next cohort?
