City of Hope - New Grad August 2013

U.S.A. California

Hey everyone! Has anyone applied to the City of Hope New Graduate program? I applied a few days ago and will post on here if I hear anything. Best of luck to those that applied!

Yes, I interviewed today.

Hi v98ginger. I was wondering if you brought your TB and physical documentation with you. I was supposed to get a TB test on Friday but since I'm flying to LA Monday, I wasn't able to get it done. I got my physical done on Friday but forgot the paperwork at home! My SO is going to take a picture of it and I'll print it once I get to LA

I had my interview on Thursday. After spending Thursday morning playing email tag with one of the nurse recruiters, I got an interview with her that afternoon. I got asked the same questions, mostly abouthow you are with computers, if you've worked with EMR before, has experience teaching adults (specifically about computers), and why you want to work for City of Hope. I was never asked to do TB testing or get my physical done. Those are odd requests specially since I thought we have to do them anyway if we get hired. I asked about the whole process. I was told that the nurse recruiters are conducting the interviews and giving their notes to the hiring managers later next week. There are 58 positions and they're interviewing pretty much the same amount of people. So, that means that you're most likely to get the job unless you screwed up the interview in a major way. I didn't ask whether it's part- or full-time or what the scheduling will be like. My guess, they're going to need 24-hour coverage because hired CIS technicians are providing support for their new EMR and as we know, hospitals aren't open just from 9-5, Monday-Friday. As grateful as I have been for this opportunity it has been a frustrating experience. The nurse recruiter took forever to get back to me and despite emailing her my responses to her questions 3 TIMES, she still acted surprised when I told her I won't be sitting for my exam until the week before the position starts (that probably caused my the job right there). We were playing email tag when it would have been easier to have just called me (she didn't have my number despite me emailing it to her 3 times, with the last email being the one she was responding to). If you hadn't gotten an invitation for the CIS interview or a rejection letter there might be hope. One of my friend applied a little late and she didn't get either that Monday we got notified. She was asked for an interview, via email, Friday night. I got the same email on the same day, a day AFTER I had my interview. So, I'm not sure what's going on but I think they need to coordinate because it has been very disorganized from the beginning. On the positive note, the nurse recruiters are really nice and the interview is individual, not panel. Also, City of Hope is a huge campus. Kinda nice. Good luck to everyone who's interviewing and I hope they figure this out soon. Oh and a friend of mine who also interviewed said salary will probably $32-34/hr.

Wow thanks for the info but I'd recommend you delete it cuz they can get to this site easily and figure out who you are.

Thanks for the recommendation, johnnychang, but I think I'll leave it up. It was an honest reflection of my own experiences and it's a feeling that's been felt by other people. I didn't say anything malicious or untrue and if they don't want to consider me for the position because of it, that's their prerogative. Maybe they'll be open-minded and learn something from it. At the very least, the information I've provided could potentially help someone else going through this process.

Well you probably got it dont worry. just make sure you past the nclex by then.

Thanks, johnnychang! :D

No, they didn't ask me to bring any of that in. Maybe they asked you because you are coming from far away and wanted to make sure you can have that done.

TB test? Why would you need a TB test if you weren't dealing w/patients? Weird :/
