City of Hope - New Grad August 2013

Published

Hey everyone! Has anyone applied to the City of Hope New Graduate program? I applied a few days ago and will post on here if I hear anything. Best of luck to those that applied!

lol, I know! I'm actually from the city.

Did anyone that interviewed recently for the CIS position get told they're going to be presented to hiring as a new grad program candidate? Trying to figure out what's going on here..

I was told that come December, we're going to get presented to the hiring manager, as long as we want to continue on in the new grad program. We will go through another interview process.

Out of the 58 CIS temp people, there will be appx 25 slots for the Jan new grad cohort.

Specializes in NICU.

Thanks for the info db2xs.

TB test? Why would you need a TB test if you weren't dealing w/patients? Weird :/

Anyone working in the healthcare field, even though you're not dealing with patients directly, requires a TB (PPD, Xray) test. Because you're in a enclosed building for so long they want to make sure you're not infectious or bringing something in the hospital lol. It's more for everyone's safety than yours. It's the same procedure before doing clinicals during nursing school. =)

and if you have TB you're going straight into quarantine until you're not contagious.

I just received a call as well. Did you apply for the position too? Good luck everyone!

Oh yeah one of my friends is me.

Am I the only one on the fence about this position? I know it would be stupid to turn it down in this new grad market, but I would be commuting 2.5 hours each way.. (Not moving up there for just 4 weeks, definitely can't afford that). They have given zero information about what a schedule would look like for me to decide if I can feasibly make this work - 12 hour shifts 3x a week? 8-4 5x a week? LA rush hour is no joke. It's difficult for me to make a decision based on so little information :(

Do it for the experience, high chance of getting into the new grad program, and the possibility of even having an extension of the superuser position. LA has a much much better job markeT than SD so you might really consider finding some short term housing with some college students and just keep applying with that address.....
