CHOA Nurse Externship

Published

I wanted to start a thread for the fellow nursing students that have recently applied for the CHOA nursing externship for 2015. I had a digital interview a couple of days ago but have not heard back. Anyone else?

Good luck everyone!

Still haven't heard back again... anyone else?

I received a call for an interview

Congrats! When did you get the call? I'm trying not to freak out yet haha

I haven't either. Staying positive though!

Anyone that has scheduled their interview, have you completed it yet? I still haven't received a call to schedule one, but they told me to be patient and they would call to schedule it by the end of the month and have final decisions made in early March.

I was told the same thing and haven't received a call to schedule the interview yet. I followed up with the woman who called me last week and she told me that once she gave our names to the unit, then it's up to them. But she also said she only gave a couple names to each unit and that they have until the end of the month to call, so just to be patient and hope for the best!

Hey alexfutureRN! I just joined allnurses but I have been reading this site since December regarding the CHOA application process. Like you, I've jumped through a lot of hoops during this process and I did receive a call from transplants two Wednesdays ago stating that I had moved on to the next round and would be contacted later for an interview. She also mentioned the possibility for final selections to be made simply off resumes. Anyways, many days have now passed since that call and March is almost here. I was wondering if you have heard anything about your current status in the application process given that we were contacted by the same unit?

I have not heard anything from the unit either. I'm not sure if this means she just hasn't made a decision or they just aren't telling us that we aren't hired... Do you think each unit only hires one extern?

I have no idea!! I wish we had more information given to us for some peace of mind! It's just stressful trying to plan your summer and judge how far you want to go with other possible externships when you still have CHOA as your number one. But we don't know whether or not we're still in the running to potentially be hired! I know of one person who was officially accepted to work on the NICU unit at CHOA this summer. She was notified via email to schedule a phone interview shortly after receiving her phone call that she was moving on in the application process. A few days after her phone interview, she got another call saying she had been accepted. According to my friend, she was told that 5 people got phone calls to be interviewed for the NICU and only 3 were accepted. Of course, every unit could be different! I just don't know how much hope I should sustain and for how much longer before I need to move on and plan for a different route this summer.

Oh wow, that process went very quickly with the NICU! I completely understand how you're feeling. It's very frustrating for me too, which is why I tried to follow up with HR when I hadn't heard anything as of last week. I wish she could've told me something more, but she did say they have until the end of the month to contact us and she said she only gave "a couple" names to the unit. Which would probably mean just me and you or possibly one other person. At this point I'm assuming they're relying on just resumes if we haven't been contacted at all, which is disappointing to me personally. I suppose we can hold out hope for one more week and then I will probably assume I'm not getting a phone call or job! I will post on here if I hear anything, and please let me know if you do! I'd even be fine hearing a rejection at this point just so I won't keep wondering and hoping for it...
