I wanted to start a thread for the fellow nursing students that have recently applied for the CHOA nursing externship for 2015. I had a digital interview a couple of days ago but have not heard back. Anyone else?
I was able to make it there!! Thanks for thinking of me :) I was nervous about it last night with all the potential snow/ice that was being predicted but now tomorrow's weather is supposed to be even worse! I got really lucky in completing the interview today and I think it went pretty well! (Fingers crossed!!) Of course, I don't want to assume ANYTHING but the entire staff was so nice and welcoming that it took the edge off my nerves going into the interview. I love the hospital and I love the unit!! Seeing it all today has confirmed those feelings for me!! I really hope we both get hired!! I wasn't able to find the best opportunity to ask specifics regarding numbers but I know that more than one extern will be hired. They said "externs" (*plural) more than once.
Regardless of whether you do a phone interview or in-person interview tomorrow, I'm sure you'll do amazing! Again, the nurse managers are so nice and attentive! A phone interview wouldn't inhibit them from acknowledging how passionate you are about nursing and joining the pediatric nursing transplant this summer. However, I hope the snow isn't too bad so that you can go! They give you a tour at the end too, which is definitely cool!! :)
Unfortunately they called me earlier saying they don't feel comfortable with me coming in tomorrow since the weather has the potential to get worse but thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm glad that you loved the unit so much and that there's a chance for both of us to be there since we've sort of been going through this together now!! And don't forget to send thank you notes, I've heard it could be a deal breaker sometimes if someone sends them and someone else doesn't! Would you be able to message me their names so I can as well? I'm scared that over the phone it will be overwhelming with trying to get their names. Thank you so much! Did they say when to expect an official hiring decision?
Definitely! Tomorrow's interview will still be great, nonetheless. Besides, that's an outside factor beyond your control and they know that you'd come in person if you could! I definitely planned on emailing them tomorrow to say thank you for today's experience. Sure, do you need email addresses and names then? I wish I had your phone number so I could personally message you their contact info....Am I able to safely disclose that info on this site? I don't really see a huge problem in doing so since it's solely for a good purpose. And they said to expect to hear something back by this Friday!!! So close to the end, it's crazy! We've just been waiting so long now that I can hardly contain myself lol.
