how to write a science paper

Thanks BusyMomof5

I haven't accutally started the class yet. It begins in august. I have only heard from others that she is not the best teacher, yet I have heard mixed things about her and I often don't agree with other's opinons about teachers being bad. That is why I am forcing myself to stay optimistic. I just want to learn and be successful. while I try not to be to stressed out and nervous :wink2:

Don't stress about it... I had a wonderful Chem teacher that many students hate. Why? Because he expects you to work hard and his tests are not easy. But boy, did he (and my equally wonderful Intro Chem teacher) give me a firm foundation in Chemistry! He had a great way of explaining things and had wonderful online notes. But like I said, he was NOT easy and is actually considered one of the harder teachers at my school. But because of my Fundamentals and chem I teachers, I just kicked butt in Chem II in the summer!

So your optimistic attitude is great!

I don't care if my teacher is super, super hard, as long as they can teach chemistry. I would love to actually understand that class. When I was in high school, my teacher sat at his desk and read the chapters--no teaching at all. So, I never got a good grasp on the concepts.

Yep, and if the chem teacher turns out to be a terrible teacher... hopefully the book will be really good and I can teach myself.

Maybe it's just me, but whenever I try to review for Chem (not just on these websites, but on any at all) I get so confused! I guess when it comes to Chem, reading about it is not enough for me. In high school I used this great site that had interactive tutorials... it would show you how to do the problems through animations and such... but that site no longer exists. I'm starting to think that I should just wait for the class to start so that I can get a clear explanation from my professor. I mean, I understand the basics, the periodic table, all the basic terms, etc., but when it comes to the more complex stuff, equations and the like, I am just lost without someone to explain it to me.

Am I alone?

You're certainly not alone. Chemistry seems like some kind of big magical mystery to me. I think it is hard for me to understand because everything involved is so microscopic. I can't visualize what is going on, and I am a visual learner.

Your not alone. I haven't taken Chemistry before though, not in high school so this semester will be my first course. But I bought a couple books this summer to try and teach myself some, and I get the basic stuff and terms and such.. but after that I am completely confused.

I'm hoping for the same thing as you, when class starts hopefully it will be more understandable material. Self teaching yourself things you have no idea about just doesn't seem to work for me.

Here is another site.

About.com I found it :typing when I was look to quiz myself on significant features.

happy studying.

Ok so as many of you guys know I am taking A&P and chem this semester so I alternate my pre-study days. Today is obviously chemistry.

Here is another site.

This one is fun its like Jeopardy.:yeah:

Thanks msdeannah, the about.com site is going to be really helpful....lots of useful information there.....I may steal your game plan....one day of A&P and the next Chem....do you feel you are getting somewhere? I've gotten alot of the basic A&P out of the way but need to get busy w/Chem....I have finals this upcoming week.....so that's taking up some time.

I too, have finals this week and have been focusing on A&P too much and neglecting working on Chem. Does anyone have any tips on how to get started with Organic Chemistry? Should I just focus on memorizing the functional groups or something else? Thanks for all the tips and great sites. :D

Hey Good luck on finals

I actually feel really good about A&P. I have moved on to chemistry of life, please don't neglect this section, I read through every post on the Last A&P thread and a lot of people stuggled here.

Anywho since this is a chem thread.

I have been going over basic terms atoms, molecules, chemical bonding, and I have been going over some chem math, not so bad so far. I can tell because of how slow I am to retain the info, that it will take alot of hard work to grind out the A I am aiming for, but I feel like the summer studying is a good thing. I have also contacted some local chem tutors in my area just in case.

I am going to take chemistry this fall too. My husband knows a lot and chemistry is so easy for him even tough he had it 20 years ago! I know, I can always count on him :)

He always says: "Look, it is easy bla bla bla bla" ;)

I know that with his help I will get A
