how to write a science paper
I start the 25th, however my Prof said thru an e-mail that we would have time to learn and review those things....also said he would furnish calculators for those that do not have them....they provide a study guide on what to know thru the bookstore....I purchased one and it's a lot. I have alread been cracking down on it all....not going to bed until midnight every night and taking my book to work w/me.
I went to the school on Tues and decideded to check on tutoring....signed myself up for a tutor for all of my classes.....if I don't need one as I go along, I can cancel....however, I wanted to be assured that I had one reserved as most tutors get overwhelmed after a few wks and slowly drop off......they get paid(by the college) to tutor me for free basically unless you hire outside of the school....which is usually about $15 an hr. I thought, it can't hurt to be prepared and I feel I am really going to need some help in Chem Lab(Math Lab)
Well I am getting the conversions right so far, but after each one I have a headache and I'm shaking my head thinking I got it wrong, so I am getting it but definitely not confident about it yet. This is only the second chapter and I have been on it for a week, I can only imagine how complex the remaining chapters are.
I have been all over craigslist looking into some chemistry tutors. I know I got a C in high school chemistry so I figure the extra help can't hurt right? But most recently I am considering online tutors. I do most of my studying at night once my son goes to bed or during lunch hour at work. So far that schedule has been working so I would think an online tutor would fit right into my already established study schedule. They use im and a program called white board, or you can upload your problems to them for more specific answers. I just wish I knew someone that has tried this before I make a final decision.
I do need to check into my school for free tutors also.
I'm in and terrified. Chem and I dont mix. I still have nightmares of my highschool chemisty class! I need all the help I can get. I am definately looking in to getting the 'idiots guide to chemistry' book! Thanks msdeannah!
I'm in the same boat. I hate chemistry and it hates me! Thanks for posting the links, I'll be buying the idiots guide immediately, I start classes first week of Sept.
Goodluck to everyone!
Here's my question about chemistry and dimensional anyalsis. In most cases am I expected to already know (for example) that there are 2.54 centimeters in an inch in order to complete the problem, or do most professors let you use a cheat sheet or something?
It depends. My first chemistry teacher let us use a one-page cheat sheet that we filled in with whatever we thought would be important. My second chemistry teacher allowed no cheat sheets whatsoever, but he put certain (not all) formulas and conversions on the test. My third chemistry teacher gave us important formulas and conversions, too -- more than my second teacher did. So you'll need to find out asap what your professor does and adapt. There are not *that many* definitions (like 2.54 cm = 1 inch), so it's not like you'll need to memorize tons of them.

Thats good to know. I have the formula pretty much down to a science (no pun intended) So hopefully my teacher doesn't expect us to remember all of conversions. I have read he is very reasonable so I should be ok.
Ok going further into dimesional anylasis today. Wish me luck. I think I'm moving to temperature today, I have the motrin on standby.
Thank God for this thread! I'm starting my chem class tomorrow and I'm terrified:cry:. It's "Survey of Chemistry" (Chem 1151). I've already tried to take it and withdrawn twice because I'm a huge weenie and I psyched myself out. I'm also taking Micro this semester so I'm more than a little nervous about handling it all. Good luck to everyone! I'm hoping that since I'm older and wiser and I actually have good study habits now that I'll make it through with a decent grade. Fingers crossed!
Wowser, I reviewed some more Chem last night..I am going to be so lost. I did go sign up for a tutor at the school....I now already that I am going to need one and didn't want to waist any time and notget one.....Good Luck everyone.....I have another week to go before I start.....right now, I am prepping for thr Huricane coming this way

I've been prepping too. While I'm just through the second chapter (and its taken be 2 weeks to get through them) I'm feeling ok about everything so far. I have a tutor on standby because I know things will get more complexed. Plus my teas study guide has a big section on chemistry that I'll started studying tonight maybe that will help also.
Be safe!!!

Maria,
Thank you so much for the math review book idea! :wink2:
