Is this school accredited? I was looking up nursing schools in North Carolina and came across this one It seems to good ro be true since there are no pre reqs required or waiting list. Has any of you gone here?

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

They are accredited to conduct (wickedly expen$ive) nursing programs. However, they are NOT 'regionally accredited' which means that many school will NOT accept credits earned for transfer. So bottom line: without regional accreditation, IF you would not complete the program, you could not transfer any of those credits to another accredited school.

General truth: If it SEEMS too good to be true, it usually is.

Not 100% sure of this ... but I think that they are a subsidiary of DeVry -- a "for-profit" career school. Many of the for-profits are under scrutiny now for a history of providing poor quality education at high prices and taking advantage of students.

The general history of many of those "for-profit" programs under attack is this:

1. A for-profit corporation wants to make money

2. The corporation buys a reputable, but small program that is struggling financially -- but that has a good reputation and all the best accreditations.

3. Once the corporation takes over, they focus more on profit than quality -- and the quality of the education goes down

4. At some point, the school's reputation is shot and it is just another expensive, poor-quality school

5. When the accreditations expire, some of them can't be renewed because they no longer meet the standards

6. If the corporation is really bad, both the state and federal governments start investigating whether or not the school is acting in a predatory manner, committing fraud, and/or not meeting the standards necessary for its students to receive federal student loans.

7. If the government declares the school's student ineligible to receive student loans, the school can't survive financially.

That is what is taking place now with ITT.

I do not know where Chamberlain is on the quality scale -- but it used to be a diploma program called Deaconess that was purchased by the DeVry corporation. Whether it will follow the path described above is something I don't know. But the fact that it does not prominently list its accreditations on its website is a red flag. Be careful.

How many students who start the program actually graduate on time?

What percentage of its graduates pass the state licensing exam (NCLEX-RN) on the first try?

Do the best local hospitals respect the school and hire many of its graduates into their premier units? Or do their new grads have to settle for the less-desirable jobs?

I think it goes by individual campuses. You will need to look that up yourself. Some are, some are not. They are very expensive.

Why do you not want to do prereqs? They are extremely important in my opinion. They are the foundation to your nursing education. A good understanding of day A&P is very important. You need to understand how the body normally works to understand how it can go wrong. You need a good math foundation. You should understand how to write a paper in APA format. Those are important things to learn in prereqs. Micro and Chem, also important. It's important especially when trying to understand fluid administration and how infection is spread.

Prereqs make the nursing program itself, a little easier. And honestly, that's hard to understand until you actually go through a program.

I'm not sure who you spoke with. Pre-reqs are actually required. It is much cheaper to do your pre-reqs elsewhere and transfer them over. My Jacksonville campus is accredited and REGIONALLY accredited through CCNE and another accrediting institution. But it does vary based upon campus and location. I would also check with some local employers to make sure they accept graduates from that school.

Chamberlain is not "easier", I don't recommend it if you are not ready to work. Your typical 12 and 16 week classes are condensend into 8 week sessions, that's why it is a fast-paced program. Do your research. Do pre-reqs at a local college to save yourself some money, and then look back into it.

Yes, it's accredited. No, it's not too good to be true. The prerequisites are actually just mixed into the first year of the program. You can do them elsewhere and transfer them in and I recommend you do that to save money.

It's a very expensive program so if you really want to go there you need to be prepared for the sticker shock when you see your bills.

Chamberlain is regionally accredited, but it is definitely way too expensive for prelicensure.

I never understand why people come here all the time and ask, "Is XYZ School accredited?" Do people really take the word of strangers on the Internet instead of just doing the 30 seconds of research that it takes for themselves?
