Anyone know anything about this place?
I think both of you have a great chance of getting in! I am going to apply for the fall 2011 semester. Right now, I have a 3.92 CGPA (i'm only in my second semester of college at a public university). I plan on taking the hesi exam over my break (march 14-18). Anybody know when I should apply for scholarships? My only worry is how I'm going to pay for college. Right now, private loans don't seem too likely. I got a ton of federal financial aid, but I think it might change on my FAFSA this year. Does anybody know if Chamberlain in Addison in IL does the MAP Grant (IL)? Also, does the financial aid office try to help you out a lot? I know Chamberlain has some kind of payment card (with interest?), but I believe you have to do a credit check for that. (My parents declared bankruptcy about 3 years ago so its hard for me to get a cosigner).
Lucky, you can contact Angela Defrietas, an admissions adviser, at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Addison. She's great. Responds quickly to emails and knows her stuff. She also doesn't bull-**** you. She will give you the right answer. Her email is [email protected]
Also, do you guys know of any other alternatives to pay for nursing school besides FAFSA and private loans? I will try to apply for scholarships, but most of them I can't apply for until I've actually gotten in. (But does anybody know of some scholarships in IL or anywhere I could apply for ?) Have any of you had experience with the Nursing Scholarship Program through the HRSA ? But yeah any alternative programs that you guys have heard of to pay for nursing school?? that would be great!
I would like to know if any of you who got accepted and started the program feel like its worth the money? I have been researching Chamberlain and Resurrection University because they are accelerated and I have a 4 year old so I don't have any time to waste with waiting list. Any input would be helpful. I work at Little Company of Mary hospital and some of the students from Chamberlain in Addison did clinicals there, and they just didn't look like they were learning anything and the instructor wasn't hands on at all. I just want a great education.
Yes, I would also like to know ^. Are there students from the Addison campus that could tell us what Chamberlain is like? And if it is worth the money? I also want to go get a Master's degree as well from like UIC or SIU or even possibly Rush. Would attending Chamberlain affect that in any way? Also, I would like to know what the schedule is like. I know each session is like 8 weeks so do you have class everyday? How flexible is your schedule? Please help! Thanks :)
Hey everyone,
I'm in my first semester at chamberlain so I don't think I know everything but I wanted to try to answer some of your questions.
I started in October '10. The program is 3 years long, year round. I came in with 2 semesters of prereqs done so I started in the nursing sequence right away, though I dont start clinicals until may so I cant help with questions on that.
So far I havent had too much trouble. I came from a four-yr university with a BS so I know how to study and get work done, but some students don't. Some students do not pass classes and have to retake them. They definitely keep you busy. A lot of pre-reqs are offered online which is really nice for not having to come to campus. All nursing classes are on campus.
The semesters are divided into two 8 week sessions. My first session I had 2 classes, was on campus 3 days a week for 9 hrs total. This session I have 3 classes and am on campus for 6 hours, one class is online.
All of the classes you need in the first year of the program seem fairly flexible scheduling-wise. But once your in the 4th semester (mine starts in march!) you dont have much say in when your classes are and amount of time on campus. I think classes go to 3-5 days a week from there on. It is pretty much set out for you. They tell you from the get-go they will not work around your work schedule.
So far I am really enjoying myself. I like my teachers. Some are easier to get along with than others, but all seem like they know a lot. Coming from a big public university, I really like the attention the advisers give you. They will not let you get lost in the crowd. There's lots of little stuff that will make you happy you are spending your future lifes savings on haha.
Thanks for your reply! That makes me feel better that you can take pre reqs online because I live about 40 minutes from Addison, so maybe I'll be able to keep a part time job until nursing classes start. I too am from a huge four year university, but I am only a freshmen this year. Can you tell me about the A2? I have not taken any anatomy courses so I'm kinda freaking out. Also, do you know anything about how often they reward scholarships? I had a 3.9 in high school, and in my first semester of college, I got a 3.92 GPA. Ik my FAFSA will be eligible. I just want to see if you have heard of anyone getting scholarships and what they're grades/other things looked like. I would have to work my butt off this summer if I can't get a scholarship. Thanks again!

Hey, hope all you guys get in!!! We all are in the same boat here just wanna get into a nursing school so we can finally make our dreams a reality.
Quick question, I just submitted my app for summer 11 at the Addison Campus. I have a 3.02 GPA/4.0 and got a 91% on the HESI A2 entrance exam. My adviser (Angela) said that I have a great application and thought my GPA and entrance scores were good enough to get in. Still I can't help but worry. I really wanna get in, what do you guys think?
