Chamberlain College of Nursing - Addison

Anyone know anything about this place?

oh, and also, how good are they about giving financial aid and scholarships??

hey guys,

I was wondering if you could help me out. Righ now, I'm at a 4-year university (I was pre-vet), and I decided I want to do nursing. I am debating or not whether to apply to Chamberlain (I wish the application fee wasnt so much). In high school, I got a 27 on my ACT and about a 3.89~3.9 GPA. I am taking 12.5 credits right now at the university (I'm a freshmen , first semester), and I should get anywhere from a 3.6-4.0 depending on how I do on finals (wish me

luck!). Should I apply for the summer semester or should I wait and take more classes at like a community college and apply for fall or even later? Do I have a chance to get in?? I talked to a really great advisor and he said that I would be a competitive applicant (I just wish I could hear, you would get in ! ). But I am worried that I'll take spring semester at a community college and not get into chamberlain and then end up screwed. Any advice here?

Thanks!

You probably have a 99% chance of getting in lol. Assuming you don't bomb the Hesi, of course. If it was me, I would definitely take as many pre-req's as possible at a community college because it will be WAY cheaper. It is not hard to get into Chamberlain, especially with your grades. Good luck.

p.s. All the advisors at Chamberlain talk in lawyer-speak. They will never say that you will get in for sure, even if they think so.

Hi Lucky.

You have a good GPA and that should get you in. No adviser will tell you for sure. The adviser you talked to doesn't even make the decision. He just knows what you need for a good chance. I do have a question. Does your university offer a nursing program? Are you at a state school or private? Chamberlain is very expensive. I turned them down the first time to go to a community college to get some of the science pre reqs out of the way and was accepted again a year later with a lower score on the entrance exam. I think you have a really great chance if Chamberlain is the way you want to go.

Look at my post all about how the scholarships, loans, and grants work. It is an earlier post but pretty long to write again. Ask if you have any questions after you see it. Good luck!! It sounds like you don't need much. I don't think anyone can bomb the HESI test either.

Thanks for the reponses everyone! Any recommendation on how to study for the entrance exam? Also, I think I may go to Harper to get the gen-eds out of the way. I think he told me Bio 160+161 (A&P 1 and 2), Chem 100, Psych 101, Soc 101, Bio 130 (Micro) , Pscyh 228, Math 165, and some other classes would transfer over? Has anyone had trouble with Chamberlain getting classes from Harper? Do you think I should take classes at Harper for Spring and Summer semester and then apply for the fall semester for Chamberlain? I just don't want it to get more competitive if I decide to wait to apply for a semester. Also, my other choice is to go to Concordia University Wisconsin (which I just applied to for the spring semester). I think I have a good chance getting into their BSN program. The tuition is about the same as Chamberlain, but since its in Milwaukee, I would have to live out there which would cost me more money. Any recommendations? I like what Chamberlain has and that I would be able to save money while leaving at home. Any know where their clinicals are held? Thanks again!

Lucky3492: I would say the best way to study for the Hesi admissions exam at Chamberlain would be to buy the study book online. It helped me a lot. As many pre-req classes that you can take at a community college, or anywhere that's somewhat cheaper, I would take advantage of that. Chamberlain seems like a wonderful college, don't get me wrong, however, in this kind of economy we all need to save a buck!

Lucky3492: By the way, good luck on your finals at your current school! Be more positive, from what I read in your post, I don't see a reason why you would not have a really good chance at getting into Chamberlain, if that's what you want. I know what you mean by just wanting to hear from the advisor that you have a good chance at getting accepted, or you will get in! I am just dying to hear anything close to that from the advisor I'm working with!

LisaWantsBSN: I was really hoping to get into the Feb 2011 class also. I am hearing rumors of them being pretty full though...? Maybe I will see you in there if all goes well for me? I do currently have a loan with Sallie Mae for an online university I went to for a short period of time that I have deferred because I'm not working. I don't know how much you know about Sallie Mae, but if I already owe them like $6,000 some dollars, will they loan me more? Plus, I don't know how my credit is at this time. I filled out my FAFSA stuff yesterday, so I guess in five days I will get a hold of a financial aid advisor at Chamberlain and see what I can do. I did take the Hesi exam, and that was another concern of mine, I only got a 78% on that. My GPA is a 3.0. What are your thoughts on all of this?

Hi Jenners

I am sorry I am not sure about Sallie Mae giving you more money or not but I would get a current credit check. The academic adviser I spoke to at Chamberlain said that one girl thought she had great credit and then was blindsided by some mess up on her credit. It wasn't her fault but she had to get it straightened out. I never heard about them being full or not. I got accepted about 3 weeks ago, I think. Your GPA is fine unless everyone has super high ones. I know they look at that as well as the HESI score. I only scored a bit higher than you on this last one. The first one I got in the 90s. That was a year ago and before I took the science courses. So go figure that one out. lol. I think you have a good shot. I only got on the alternate list at my community college. They are harder to get into because of the cost. I got a call from my adviser to tell me I was accepted and then he set me up with an appt with him to sign some papers and give him a check for a drug test, then appt with financial aid adviser, then went right to the drug test down the street. Then they are to contact me I think in January to set up my schedule. I have some of the pre reqs done so they will have to change it around but they do like to stick to the schedule they have online on their site. Good Luck and hope to see you. Let me know what happens.

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I checked my credit and it's not that great. I attempted to see if I could get a private loan through Sallie Mae and I got declined. They said I would need a co-signer. Problem is, I don't know of anyone to co-sign at this time. Can I ask how you did it? Did you have to get a private loan? If so, where did you decide to go through?

Jen

Lisa,

Have you ever applied for a scholarship by chance? Do you know if it's hard to do?

I just applied to Chamberlain in AZ. I have a community college gpa of 3.6, a university gpa of 3.175, got an overall 83 on Hesi A2 (100 on math, 76 on sciences, 86 on reading/writing)

What are my chances of getting in?? Im so nervous! Do they look at all the hesi scores or do they focus mainly on math and reading? thanks for all who can help
