Challenging The Rn Boards

Anybody Out There Know Or Hear Of Any States Allowing Lpns To Challenge The Rn Boards. If So What States

Have not ever heard of this....is there a particular reason the challenger would not want to go to RN school? Not picking, just wondering.

this is what i found with google

I believe that every state in the Union requires that you be a graduate of a state-approved nursing (RN) program to be eligible to write the NCLEX. I've never heard of anyone being able to "challenge" the RN boards anywhere.

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

I would hope that as Nursing is a profession, it wouldn't be permitted. Do we permit MDs to "challenge" Boards.

But I do not know for sure.

You can challenge the LVN Boards in California but only with military training, etc. You can also do the 30 credit plan in CA, which would then permit you to be able to sit for the RN Boards, however, that license would only be able to be used and you would not be able to endorse to any other state.

For every place else, there is no way around it but attendng some type of program. There are bridge programs also available.

Ok Guys It Was Just A Question Didnt Think It Was Possible But Had Heard Through The Rumor Mill At The Hospital ... Am Currently Doing The Excelsior Program And Have 5 Or 6 Study Guides Left Thanks For The Quick Responses

Just found this on another forum:

No state in the USA will allow an LPN to sit for the NCLEX. In order to do so that individual must be a graduate of an approved professional nursing program. Excelsior is the approved program and one must be a graduate of their program and posess the correct credential in order to even be considered to sit for the NCLEX.One poster showed a little confusion in this matter. The Excelsior program allows you to take challange exams, rather than sit thru an entire semester of a course. If you successfully pass the exam (Excelsior has a specific pass score that they adhere to) you are then given the same college credits as if you spent a semester in the course. Upon completion of the specifc courses need for ASN/ orBSN from the college you must take and pass a 3 day clinical examination at a hospital that participates with Excelsior College. You are observed in several different clinical settings/patient care situations, and if you successfully pass 3 of them you pass the clinical exam.An LPN with strong clinical background is usually successful --after he/or she knows the clinical study guide, that the college provides to enrolled student, backwards and fowards.

Sorry, but you cannot challenge the Boards. There is no state that will permit it directly.

Please do not post in all caps. It ias actually against the TOS, as it is considered shouting in the bb world, and harder on some eyes when reading.

The instructors that I have worked with over the past few years, all have years of clinical experience in the real world, and most held staff positions at various facilities in the area. Sorry that you are having problems with some of the instructors in your area.

The way to obtaining RN licensure should be through attending a state approved registered nursing program. I do hope no state would allow this!
