4.0 Challenge!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone! I'm a pre-Nursing student with two semesters of pre-reqs to do before I can apply to the Nursing Program at my University. Who wants to start a support thread and help motivate each other? We can list our classes for the fall and report back with updates/venting/encouraging as needed. I'll start:

A&P I with Lab

Fundamentals of Organic & Biochem with Lab

Nursing 110 (a survey introductory course at my school serving as an overview of Nursing)

Sociology 105

I'd love to hear what everyone is taking! Good luck, you can do this!

:specs::)

Specializes in Pediatrics.

A&P I and II (8-credit course, it burns!) 97 (almost done with A/PI!)

Comp II Honors - 93

World Lit Honors - 99

Spanish II - 97

18 credit hours, holy crap, I want to die between this and working 50 hours a week as an LPN. Surprisingly enough, A&P is easy, but Comp II is crazy difficult! She is a really tough grader, and you have to really fight for an A!

A&P I - 104%

Statistics - 98%

Sign Language - I don't know yet because we've only had one quiz and several papers on Deaf events :)

Keep up the good work everyone!

By the way, how is taking A&P with Microbiology? I'll be taking them both next semester. Any tips? :)

:wideyed:

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Medical terminology- 105%

Dosage calculations- 92%

Micro- first test next Tues.,lab in 3wks.

Africa American history- first test this wknd

Ugh I'm freaking out a little. I have a test on Monday and just did the practice test and got a B on it. I've already studied a lot and am not sure where he pulled some questions out since I've gone to class and studied the text very thoroughly. This is in lifespan development. I'll keep studying but kind of feel like it's an exercise in futility at this point. There will be a study session tomorrow put on by the TAs, which I'll be late to because of work, but hopefully I can get some clarification.

The last test was on a Monday as well and I went into office hours to ask for clarification on a couple things that morning. He kind of made me feel bad for it, like I'd waited too long. At this point I'd studied, gone through the objectives and did well on the practice test but just wanted to make sure I thoroughly understood a concept. It's not like I went in all "dur dur I didn't read or go to class but what's going to be on the test?" and I ended up getting one of the highest scores on the test- a high B. So I really need an A on this one.

I'm a little reluctant to go in again for help but I just may have to. Oh well if he thinks less of me. Better late than never.

Specializes in Med-surg, home care.

I am non-traditional student and plan to take only one class at a time but I refuse to get less than "A" in any of them. Initially I was going to do 2 at a time but figured I would have better chance of better grade if I just focus on one class, even if it takes me a few years to get in. I told hubby he will have to help out with kids more and I am trying to set aside time every evening for school related stuff (I work in the day) so I stay ahead (I am taking all courses online except for organic chem which I plan to take on campus on weekend at the school I plan to attend). So far I took psych 101 (got an "A") and I am now taking Developmental psych. Still have to take A& P I and II, micro, chem 1 and organic chem. I mean business!

Specializes in ER.

I had 4.0 in pre-nursing but then I became too tired and worn out between working, doing two programs, and studying to really care about my grades. As long as I pass.

This is what seems to be the trend. Most people after so much to take in are just happy if they get the minimum passing grade. I don't blame them because the program can become overwhelming and intense.

This will be me. I've never been one to care a great deal about a perfect 4.0 and have always been more interested in understanding and application of material vs memorize and purge for an A. I started this thread to keep myself accountable, since I need As to apply to a very competitive BSN program at my University. Beyond that, I won't be overly concerned with those last five points or anything like that. This is why medical schools don't give letter grades. Students would freak out about the A. I will be so relieved when I get in that grades will be an afterthought.

Ok, I've been waiting for my test grades for the past week to give an update:

So far everything is going good. I can honestly say this has been the most intense semester I've ever had. Having to study for a world history midterm on Thursday, then a A&P lecture test and lab practical on the same day (today) back to back, I haven't had time to think! Still haven't got the history midterm results back but got my A&P results back right away.

In lab we had our first practical today, and not to brag or anything (well kinda lol), but I was one of the 3 people that passed out of 30 in my lab section. Made a 92! I still can't believe 27 people failed, and we only have one more practical. There's pretty much no redeeming yourself from that. Ouch. I also made a 92 on the lecture exam which was over histology and two other chapters. I'm so excited. The class average was failing for that test also. Studying hard really does pay off. As for my grades all together, I have:

A&P I Lecture-A

Lab-A

Lifespan Development-A

Economics-A

World History- ? Either an A or B. Really dislike history :/

Post your grades everyone!

I got 3 As and one B, for a 3.69! I'll take that :)

Oh yes, this thread :) -- I beat the challenge! Got a 4.0, finally!

I did it!! I thought for sure I'd end up with an A- in A&P I, but I did really well on the last two tests and got an A!! 4 A's (A&P I, Nutrition, Sociology & Art Therapy)!!!!!
