The LAST weekend :-)
Saturday - Watched movies with family, cooked and baked, cleaned the house. Sunday - Went to church with family, spent the day relaxing with friends, played games, watched movies. It felt good to relax after spending the past few weeks reading, printing, and organizing to get ready for nursing school. My first day of class is today at noon, so excited! :)

How to work smarter?
I know what you mean! There is just so much to read! Here's what I do: 1. Read the assigned chapters before lecture (I try to do my readings the week before class). 2. Print out the powerpoint or outline for lecture. 3. Take notes on the PP and highlight all the important parts. 4. After lecture, following the PP and notes, reread and study the parts of the book that the instructor emphasized. 5. Also, if the instructor gives objectives for each chapter, I write them out in outlined form and use them as a study guide for tests (in addition to my notes and the PP) I find that this method works for me, and it helps me know what to focus on. Hope this helps! :)

Is my school the only one?
My nursing program (after prerequisites) is: 1st semester - Introduction to Clinical Nursing (6 credits w/ clinical) 2nd semester - Medical-Surgical I (7 credits w/ clinical) + Reproductive Health (3 credits w/ clinical) 3rd semester - Medical-Surgical II (4 credits w/ clinical) + Psychiatric/Mental Health (4 credits w/ clinical) 4th semester - Medical-Surgical III (4 credits w/ clinical) + Nursing Care of Children (3 credits w/ clinical) + Preparation for Practice (2 credits w/ clinical) We have the option to take a Dosage Calculations class (1 credit) before the program starts. We also have to pass a "math for medication safety" exam prior to each semester (with 95% or greater) to be able to continue on with the program.

Experience Required to be a School Nurse?
Hi School Nurses! I was wondering what type of experience is required to become a school nurse. Where did you work before you became a school nurse? Did you need any special qualifications? Do you find your work rewarding? Thanks!

Which specialty would you like to end up in?
I've been thinking about Pediatrics (maybe private duty?), School Nursing, the OR, and Labor and Delivery (thanks to "Call the Midwife"). But whatever God has planned for me is fine, I would just be happy to have a job as an RN! :)

Good Jobs for Nursing Students
Hello Nursing Students, I am currently taking prerequisites, and I've applied to nursing school for fall 2014. Right now, I'm working PRN as a care manager at an assisted living facility. I was wondering if you're able to work (full time, part time, PRN) while being in nursing school? If so, what type of job works well with nursing school (for you)? I've heard that after the first semester of nursing school, students can take the CNA exam and become certified. Do hospitals hire nursing students as nurse techs or CNAs? Does working private duty as a CNA work well with nursing school? Thanks! :)

Anyone from FCC's nursing program?
Hey Kitkat1212! I'm a pre-nursing student at FCC and I applied for the nursing program for fall 2014. This is what I think, but since I'm not in the nursing program yet I don't know for sure...I think that nursing students mainly practice things like taking vitals on each other, and practice doing things like "full" head-to-toe assessments, IVs, and catheters on models/mannequins. When I walk past the nursing classrooms that's what I see the students practicing on. But if you feel uncomfortable doing anything, you could always let the instructor know. I'm sure a majority of students wouldn't feel comfortable taking off their clothes to be practiced on! I hope this helps!
